Thomas Massie <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/03\/27\/trump-congressman-thomas-massie-coronavirus-vote-151523\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>held up<\/span><\/a><span> a $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill that almost everyone in both parties heavily favored, including the Republican president of his own party, Donald Trump. Massie wanted a roll call vote so members\u2019 names would be attached to the legislation\u2014so we would know exactly who to blame when things went awry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The entire Washington establishment came after Massie for this. (Trump even called for him to be thrown out of the party.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It only took three weeks for the libertarian-leaning Republican to be <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/corrupt-coronavirus-bailout-results-prove-thomas-massie-was-right-all-along\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>proven right<\/span><\/a><span> about the inherent corruption of this mass spending.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sen. Rand Paul opposed the coronavirus stimulus spending in his chamber during the same period, where he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courier-journal.com\/story\/news\/2020\/03\/18\/coronavirus-bill-rand-pauls-amendment-rejected-senate\/2863112001\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>chided<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cI ask my colleagues to stop wasting money in this time of crisis. Stop being a rubber stamp for wasteful spending \u2014 do your jobs and prioritize our precious resources. It is our job and our responsibility to conserve our resources.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Massie and Paul opposed the COVID-19-related \u201cstimulus\u201d even when Republicans were eager to spend under Trump, arguing that printing more money would eventually do more damage to the economy than the comparably smaller effect on Americans merely receiving unexpected $1200 to $1400 checks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Opposing another monstrous spending bill in late 2020, Paul <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paul.senate.gov\/news\/dr-rand-paul-stop-piling-debt-future-generations-open-economy-and-cut-waste-budget-pay\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>warned<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cWe are $27 trillion in debt today. How do we expect a child to have the economic opportunity when this crushing debt is their inheritance from Congress?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s clear that government has worsened the economic damage and acted as the biggest obstacle to economic recovery,\u201d he added. \u201cThe answer is not printing up and distributing \u2018free money.\u2019 It\u2019s opening the economy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Paul was noting that real commerce\u2014with real money\u2014was key to economic recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Then Joe Biden became president.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Democrats eager to supposedly \u2018build back better\u2019 or \u2018rescue American jobs\u2019 were as eager as Republicans under Trump to give bills appealing names that all did the same thing: Spend monstrous amounts of money we simply didn\u2019t have with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/2022\/01\/10\/american-rescue-plan-data-show-zero-jobs-created-by-biden-stimulus\/\" class=\"stylish-link\">dubious results<\/a> at best.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Paul <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/op-eds\/republicans-musnt-enable-bidens-overspending-by-waiving-paygo\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>warned<\/span><\/a><span> at the end of 2021, \u201cContinued reckless spending is dangerous to the health of our country and our national security. Simply put, the bill provides reckless spenders with a blank check and sends the country further down a dangerous path that threatens a future of confiscatory tax rates, low employment prospects, and <\/span><b>high inflation<\/b><span>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As inflation continued to spike this year, Democrats and Republicans pointed at different causes except the real one: Continuous alarming government spending both parties overwhelmingly signed off on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Massie gave everyone a reminder in April:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Who\u2019s to blame for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/inflation?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" class=\"stylish-link\">#inflation<\/a>? <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" class=\"stylish-link\">@POTUS<\/a> blames Putin. Republicans blame Democrats. The truth is in this graph. On 3\/27\/2020, Congress passed the biggest spending bill in history, and followed up with more, totaling $7 trillion. Mike Lee, former Congressman Justin Amash and a handful of others were mostly screaming into the wind as both parties spent to their hearts\u2019 content for years, their warnings about inflation weren\u2019t a major revelation for these Republicans. Just a basic knowledge of free market economics, or more particularly, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/what-austrian-economics\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>Austrian economics<\/span><\/a><span>, tells you that when you create more money it becomes worth less.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Still, no one listened. Most of Washington dismissed Massie, Paul and the few others who predicted the inflation we are dealing with today.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">When the Federal Reserve rapidly adds trillions of dollars to its balance sheet to cover trillions of dollars in government spending, don\u2019t be surprised when prices go up.
