Governor John Fetterman\u2019s bid for the Senate admitted on Monday that expectations for the Democratic <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/2022-midterms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nominee<\/a> are low as he prepares to debate his Republican rival, Dr. <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/mehmet-oz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mehmet Oz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The two candidates will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fetterman-versus-oz-pennsylvania-senate-nominees-finally-nail-down-time-and-place-for-debate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">debate live for one hour<\/a> on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in what will likely be the only scheduled face-to-face encounter ahead of Election Day. The arrangement was only recently confirmed as Fetterman, who has stuttered and lost his train of thought in multiple public appearances after suffering a stroke days before the Democratic primary, had promised to debate Oz \u201csometime in the middle to end of October\u201d on a \u201cmajor television station.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hollyotterbein\/status\/1584567680677601280?s=20&#038;t=DDu5XvfSuUVcLuavchD5dw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">email<\/a> to reporters, the Fetterman campaign acknowledged that \u201cthis isn\u2019t John\u2019s format,\u201d arguing Oz has a distinct advantage because of his career as a television host. \u201cJohn is ready to share his vision for Pennsylvania, defend his record, and make the case against Oz,\u201d the message said. \u201cHe\u2019s going to be talking about his real ideas to help real people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The debate comes as many polls, which had shown Fetterman ahead of Oz for months, swing in favor of the celebrity cardiologist. One <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-pa-poll-shows-oz-with-4-5-point-lead-over-fetterman-mastriano-in-striking-distance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey<\/a> from market research firm Wick showed Oz leading Fetterman by 4.5 points.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman will use a monitor during the debate to help with lingering auditory processing issues from the stroke, his campaign said. Multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/john-fetterman-gives-puzzling-response-when-answering-question-during-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">videos<\/a> of the candidate battling through speeches have spread online in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are prepared for Oz\u2019s allies and right-wing media to circulate malicious viral videos after the debate that try to paint John in a negative light because of awkward pauses, missing some words, and mushing other words together,\u201d the email continued. \u201cJohn has had a remarkable recovery, but the ongoing auditory processing challenges are real. The campaign insisted on closed captioning technology because it\u2019s necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman\u2019s persistent health issues have been a significant liability weeks before Election Day. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/surprising-group-of-voters-is-helping-dr-oz-narrow-the-gap-against-john-fetterman-in-pennsylvania-senate-contest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a> from Emerson College and The Hill, roughly 34% of voters in Pennsylvania are \u201cextremely or very worried\u201d that the nominee\u2019s health would render him unable to complete his duties in the Senate, marking an 11-point increase from three months ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is a unique candidate with a strong personal brand that transcends partisanship,\u201d the email added. \u201cThat\u2019s what voters are going to see on the debate stage, and it\u2019s why John is going to win this race \u2014 even if he doesn\u2019t win the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even leftist members of the media have acknowledged the health challenges in recent weeks. NBC News reporter Dasha Burns <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/townhallcom\/status\/1579973883515777024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a> that Fetterman struggled to understand their conversation ahead of a recent sit-down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-election\/fetterman-says-stroke-recovery-changes-everything-s-fit-serve-senator-rcna51498\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a>, during which he responded to oral questions after reading captions on a computer screen. Even with the equipment, Fetterman at times stuttered and had trouble finding words.<\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath of the interview, many left-leaning reporters began criticizing Burns, causing the journalist to defend her network\u2019s choice to raise questions about Fetterman\u2019s health. Gisele Barreto Fetterman, the wife of the Democratic candidate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ableist-toward-the-disability-community-john-fettermans-wife-tells-nbc-to-apologize-for-asking-about-his-stroke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that Burns was \u201cableist\u201d for noting that her husband has not provided a meaningful update on his recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf this happened in a school, if this was a child that was ableist towards another child or a teacher, there would\u2019ve been issues stated. There would have been new training done,\u201d she contended. \u201cWhat is being done at the media after a reporter came out so openly ableist towards a person? I think shocked and appalled, but sadly not surprised.
