Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/EU-to-gift-18-Billion-to-Ukraine-next-year-Rest-Will-Come-From-US.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p><strong>The European Union will give Ukraine 1.5 billion euros (about US$1.5 billion) in 2023 to assist with running the country while it fights against Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke after the 27 national EU leaders discussed supporting Ukraine during the second day of their summit in Brussels on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>She said the EU has so far<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/world\/europe\/article\/3196852\/ukraine-eu-give-us18-billion-kyiv-next-year-help-run-country\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> sent<\/a> $19 billion to Ukraine this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very important for Ukraine to have a predictable and stable flow of income,\u201d she said, adding that Kyiv estimated its monthly needs at 3-4 billion euros \u201cfor the basics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Von der Leyen said the EU would finance 1.5 billion euros per month, with the rest expected to come from the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat will give a total of 18 billion for the next year \u2013 an amount Ukraine can count on and where there is a stable and reliable, predictable flow of income.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During a video link, Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the EU leaders saying Russian missiles and Iranian drones have damaged a third of Ukraine\u2019s energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>RELATED: IMF: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfetched.com\/imf-ukraine-needs-4-billion-a-month-to-keep-govt-from-collapsing\/\">Ukraine Needs $4 BILLION a Month to Keep Govt From Collapsing<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussia also provokes a new wave of migration of Ukrainians to EU countries,\u201d Zelensky said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussian terror against our energy facilities is aimed at creating as many problems as possible with electricity and heat for Ukraine this fall and winter so that as many Ukrainians as possible move to your countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Von der Leyen said the EU was looking to help Ukraine re-establish water, power and electricity supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Zelensky asked the EU for air and missile defence systems and called for \u201cnew powerful\u201d sanctions on Russia and Iran for supplying drones in Moscow\u2019s war.<\/p>\n<p>Poland and the three Baltic states proposed banning diamond imports from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfetched.com\/russian-security-official-warns-of-world-war-iii-if-ukraine-joins-nato\/\">Russia<\/a> and phasing out the steel trade.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hungary opposed sanctions against Russia, while Germany and France have said current measures already go far.<\/p>\n<p>Zelensky appealed for more aid pledges to be made at an international conference in Berlin next Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>European Council President Charles Michel, the summit\u2019s chairman, said the EU was looking at using Russian assets frozen under sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said that seizing assets amounted to some 300 billion euros, while Berlin and others have warned it might be illegal.<\/p>\n<p>Kallas also sided with Lithuania for a possible international tribunal to judge possible war crimes committed in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is pure terrorism,\u201d Kallas said of Russia\u2019s war.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Union will give Ukraine 1.5 billion euros (about US$1.5 billion) in 2023 to assist with running the country while it fights against Russia.
