He then hit her with a handgun before opening fire on the first two medical workers who walked into the room. <\/p>\n<p>A Methodist Health System (MHS) police officer who responded to the scene shot and wounded Hernandez. It was then that Hernandez was transported to another hospital for treatment. The Dallas Police Department and MHSPD later announced they <a href=\"https:\/\/dpdbeat.com\/2022\/10\/22\/methodist-health-system-police-arrest-man-for-capital-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrested Hernandez for capital murder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the shooting, Hernandez was out on parole for a 2015 aggravated robbery in which he taped a woman\u2019s hands and eyes, leaving her with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox4news.com\/news\/suspect-charged-with-murdering-2-nurses-at-dallas-hospital-has-a-long-criminal-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">broken nose and fractured eye<\/a>, before stealing her cell phone, vehicle, and at least $3,000 in cash. Hernandez pleaded guilty to the incident in 2015 and was sentenced to eight years in prison but was allowed back into society<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/crime\/2022\/10\/23\/suspect-in-methodist-dallas-hospital-shooting-has-history-of-violent-robbery-records-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> with parole parameters in October 2021<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>A prison spokesman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/crime\/2022\/10\/23\/suspect-in-methodist-dallas-hospital-shooting-has-history-of-violent-robbery-records-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told The Dallas Morning News<\/a> that Hernandez, equipped with an <a href=\"https:\/\/dpdbeat.com\/2022\/10\/22\/methodist-health-system-police-arrest-man-for-capital-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ankle monitor<\/a>, was allowed in the hospital on Saturday\u00a0\u201cto be with his significant other during delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a tragedy, and an abhorrent failure of our criminal justice system,\u201d Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DPDChiefGarcia\/status\/1583936379859238912?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1583936379859238912%7Ctwgr%5Eaefdb3a4571e74bf1fbd7522620793ed0f735577%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fox4news.com%2Fnews%2Fsuspect-charged-with-murdering-2-nurses-at-dallas-hospital-has-a-long-criminal-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweeted<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>A few hours later, Garcia <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DPDChiefGarcia\/status\/1583978837141954560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1583978837141954560%7Ctwgr%5E2892e3f491774465d7c21e6def9249f8bfc981b6%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theblaze.com%2Fnews%2Fan-abhorrent-failure-of-our-criminal-justice-system-suspect-accused-of-fatally-shooting-two-employees-at-dallas-hospital-was-out-of-prison-on-early-release-for-previous-conviction-for-aggravated-robbe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expressed frustration<\/a> with the \u201cbroken system\u201d that allowed a career criminal such as Hernandez back on the streets. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hearts @DallasPD go out to the those affected by this tragedy, I\u2019m outraged along with our community, at the lack of accountability, and the travesty of the fact that under this broken system, we give violent criminals more chances, than our victims. The pendulum has swung too far,\u201d Garcia tweeted. <\/p>\n<p>Over the last 11 years, Hernandez has been convicted of various crimes such as robbery, possession, theft, burglary, and \u201cdelinquent conduct constituting the felony offense of assault of a public servant.\u201d As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox4news.com\/news\/suspect-charged-with-murdering-2-nurses-at-dallas-hospital-has-a-long-criminal-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FOX 4 noted<\/a>, those are Hernandez\u2019s recorded crimes in \u201cDallas County alone.\u201d Despite his violent history, Hernandez successfully obtained plea bargains that reduced his sentences and helped him avoid maximum punishment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCourt records appear to show that after Hernandez agreed to a plea bargain, \u2018enhancements\u2019 related to his prior criminal history that could have led to a stiffer sentence may not have been applied,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keranews.org\/news\/2022-10-22\/two-shot-at-methodist-dallas-medical-center-gunman-also-reportedly-shot-by-police-officer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KERA reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Blue checkmarks on Twitter tried to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/shannonrwatts\/status\/1583888763171717120?s=20&#038;t=H18sGnON5meKWPzNrJhWfQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blame<\/a> the tragedy on Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and the Lone Star State\u2019s permitless carry law, which went into effect in September 2021. Hernandez, a felon, however, is barred under the new law from carrying a firearm.
