You know, I\u2019m really grateful to her for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 53-year-old actor told Sawyer that he wrote the book because he felt like it was time to give back, and that he hoped by sharing his own journey, he could maybe reach others who were struggling in their own lives, saying, \u201cIt was important to me to do something that would help people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecrets kill you. Secrets kill people like me,\u201d Perry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1351513\/matthew-perry-says-jennifer-aniston-confronted-him-about-his-drinking-in-diane-sawyer-interview-trailer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a>, noting that he should have been reveling in the success of \u201cFriends\u201d \u2014 along with a few movies like \u201cThe Whole Nine Yards,\u201d in which he starred alongside Bruce Willis and Amanda Peet \u2014 but that instead, he was quietly miserable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the time I should have been the toast of the town.
