She is isolating at her home and will work remotely, the CDC said.<\/p>\n<p>Senior staffers and close contacts have been informed of the positive test and \u201care taking appropriate action to monitor their health,\u201d the agency added.<\/p>\n<p>Walensky is described as \u201cup to date\u201d on her vaccines, which refers to the agency\u2019s recommendation that Americans get one or more boosters after a primary series, depending on when a person receives their initial shots.<\/p>\n<p>Walensky received the new bivalent booster from Moderna in Massachusetts in September, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Health\/cdc-director-weighs-pandemic-bivalent-covid-shot-critically\/story?id=90323875\">telling ABC News<\/a> at the time, \u201cI think it\u2019s critically important to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the data from this new bivalent vaccine have demonstrated that it will protect you against\u2014more likely protect you\u2014against the strains that we have circulating right now, those Omicron BA.5 strains, as well as keep you well protected, because we\u2019ve seen that some of that protection can wane over time. So, we are really encouraging everybody to roll up their sleeves and get this updated bivalent vaccine,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency authorization to the booster from Moderna and another like it from Pfizer despite there being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trial-data-for-newly-authorized-covid-19-boosters-based-on-mice-not-humans_4704068.html\">no clinical data<\/a> available for either shot.<\/p>\n<p>The only evidence it works is from testing from mice, which indicated that neutralizing antibody levels were higher after vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>Experts believe, but do not know for sure, that antibodies help protect against COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/cdc-advisers-advise-agency-to-recommend-updated-covid-19-boosters-for-ages-12-and-up_4705426.html\">recommended<\/a> the updated boosters for Americans aged 12 and up in September, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fda-authorizes-updated-covid-19-boosters-for-younger-children_4791079.html\">expanded the availability<\/a> to children as young as five in October.<\/p>\n<p>Some experts agree with the push for the new shots but others note the uncertainty surrounding a benefit and growing awareness of side effects, including heart inflammation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there\u2019s not clear evidence of benefit, then it\u2019s not fair to ask people to take a risk, no matter how small,\u201d Dr. Paul Offit, an adviser to the FDA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fda-vaccine-adviser-suggests-young-healthy-people-shouldnt-get-latest-covid-booster_4755737.html\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Vinay Prasad, a professor of epidemiology at the University of California, San Francisco, and a critic of the vaccination push, said that Walensky\u2019s positive test supports his position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe received the bivalent booster exactly one month ago at a CVS pharmacy. Right now, she\u2019s probably in the window where the booster exerts the greatest protective effect it could possibly exert, yet still: look what happened,\u201d he wrote in <a href=\"https:\/\/sensiblemed.substack.com\/p\/the-cdc-director-just-got-covid-she?sd=pf\">a blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore we launch massive vaccination campaigns, we need good evidence that they actually benefit the people we are tasked with protecting and caring for.
