It started on Inauguration Day, 2021, when President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmrlink.org\/issues\/full\/biden-presidency-begins-with-injuries-and-insults-to-the-troops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">directed all government agencies<\/a> to devise and enforce diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) mandates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiversity\u201d and \u201cnondiscrimination\u201d are important, but percentage-based \u201cequity\u201d goals differ from \u201cequality.\u201d Additional Biden administration orders reversed President Donald Trump\u2019s nuanced policy regarding transgender military personnel and erased Trump\u2019s directive eliminating controversial critical race theory (CRT) instruction programs.<\/p>\n<p>Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin quickly ordered worldwide \u201canti-extremist\u201d standdown sessions, which featured divisive CRT themes and unresolvable accusations of \u201csystemic racism\u201d or \u201cwhite supremacy.\u201d The demoralizing sessions diverted 5.3 million man-hours from normal operations, but investigators found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/dod-report-finds-about-100-troops-involved-in-extremist-activities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fewer than 100 extremists<\/a> among 2 million servicemembers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/tom-cotton-critical-race-theory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sen. Tom Cotton<\/a>, R-Ark., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/military-critical-race-theory-academies-soldiers-rep-mike-waltz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rep. Mike Waltz<\/a>, R-Fla., and other lawmakers have received hundreds of messages and reports of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/service-members-speak-out-against-woke-military\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cegregiously inappropriate\u201d<\/a> CRT training sessions. Judicial Watch obtained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/crt-propaganda-at-west-point\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">numerous documents<\/a> confirming CRT indoctrination at West Point and is suing for more from the Naval Academy.<\/p>\n<p>The Air Force Academy sparked controversy with a \u201cdiversity and inclusion\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/cmrlink.org\/data\/sites\/85\/CMRDocuments\/DI%2007%20Sept%2022%20Training_copy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">slide show<\/a> combining platitudes with odd suggestions for \u201cinclusive language,\u201d such as \u201cparents, caregivers, or guardians\u201d instead of \u201cMom\u201d and \u201cDad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More seriously, the CRT-influenced presentation disparaged the word \u201ccolorblind.\u201d That characterization radically departs from the colorblind principles of Martin Luther King Jr., and President Harry Truman\u2019s 1948 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trumanlibrary.gov\/library\/executive-orders\/9981\/executive-order-9981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive order<\/a> ending discrimination in the military.<\/p>\n<p>Claiming that the presentation had been taken out of context, Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Richard Clark <a href=\"https:\/\/cmrlink.org\/data\/sites\/85\/CMRDocuments\/LG_Clark-101022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>, \u201cWe should respect everyone\u2019s situation and not make assumptions.\u201d This was ironic since CRT instructions are <em>built on<\/em> assumptions and stereotypes. Prejudgments based on sex or skin color alone <em>define<\/em> what prejudice is.<\/p>\n<h2>Discrimination Against White Males<\/h2>\n<p>Denials of woke-ism ring false when the academy hosts seminars like <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/air-force-academy-holds-transgender-visibility-seminar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cTransgender Visibility and Awareness in our Air Force,\u201d<\/a> while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/air-force-academy-promotes-fellowship-bans-cisgender-men-this-program-isnt-for-you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">excluding<\/a> \u201ccisgender men\u201d from the academy\u2019s Brooke Owens Fellowship program \u2014 a nine-week paid internship for cadets interested in aerospace.<\/p>\n<p>Now the program is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookeowensfellowship.org\/apply\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reserved<\/a> for women and \u201cnon-binary, agender, bigender, two-spirit, demigender, genderfluid, genderqueer, or another form of gender minority.\u201d This type of brazen discrimination smacks of woke-ism, and it is not unique.<\/p>\n<p>Red State <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/streiff\/2022\/09\/18\/unexpectedly-the-usaf-finds-itself-with-a-critical-shortage-of-pilots-while-it-says-it-has-too-many-white-officers-n629231\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a> that the Air Force was short 1,650 pilots in 2021, but officials plan to reduce white officers from 80 percent to 67.5 percent. They also plan to decrease white male pilots, currently 86 percent, by dropping prior flight training as a \u201cplus\u201d factor for selection.<\/p>\n<p>Why would an experienced white male pilot join or stay in the Air Force knowing he will be the target of racial discrimination, especially when commercial airlines offer generous family and financial advantages?<\/p>\n<p>The Army ended fiscal year 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/hosted.ap.org\/journalrecord\/article\/6cae87a2c64b846a79b0b6e9175f1c93\/us-army-misses-recruiting-goal-other-services-squeak#:~:text=WASHINGTON%20%28AP%29%20%E2%80%94%20The%20Army%20fell%20about%2015%2C000,find%20young%20people%20willing%20and%20fit%20to%20enlist.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">short 15,000 recruits (25 percent)<\/a>, and the other services barely made their goals by accelerating delayed-entry recruits. This will make it harder to meet objectives next year, but Pentagon leaders expect recruiters to spend more time and resources trying to attract female prospects with a lower propensity to serve.<\/p>\n<p>Woke-ism also manifests in disastrous Covid-19 vaccine mandates. Thousands of <a href=\"https:\/\/news.usni.org\/2021\/12\/14\/military-recruits-required-to-sign-statement-acknowledging-covid-19-vaccine-mandate-before-training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">potential recruits<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americaoutloud.com\/open-letter-to-my-fellow-u-s-coast-guard-flag-officers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cadets<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-armedservices.house.gov\/sites\/republicans.armedservices.house.gov\/files\/22-09-30%20HASC%20R%20letter%20to%20SECDEF%20on%20VAX%20Mandate.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">experienced personnel<\/a> have been rejected or discharged for expressing medical or religious objections. Each one conveys an \u201canti-recruiting\u201d message to the military\u2019s prime \u201cmarket,\u201d patriotic families with traditional values.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead of repairing bonds with that core constituency, Pentagon officials keep catering to LGBT activists. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/06\/01\/u-s-marine-corps-goes-woke-celebrates-pride-month-rainbow-bullets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cPride\u201d events<\/a> are proliferating on military bases, sometimes with \u201cfamily friendly\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/06\/24\/nellis-air-force-base-throws-first-ever-drag-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drag queen performances<\/a> and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/us-air-force-base-community-center-hosts-drag-time-story-hour-after-initially-being-cancelled-by-military?utm_campaign=64483\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">story hours<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Denials of biological reality descend into incoherence. Woke transgender training <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmilitarynews.com\/2022\/06\/us-navy-says-itll-punish-sailors-who-misuse-gender-pronouns-intentionally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">requires sex-confused pronouns<\/a>, and Selective Service is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/us\/trans-women-who-were-born-male-must-sign-up-for-military-draft\/ar-AA12OHSL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">registering men identifying as \u201cwomen,\u201d<\/a> but not transgender \u201cmen\u201d who have female DNA.<\/p>\n<h2>CRT Reaffirmed in DOD Schools and Academies<\/h2>\n<p>Now comes \u201canti-racist\u201d activist Kelisa Wing, the new director of diversity and inclusion programs in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dodea.edu\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of Defense Education Activity<\/a> \u2014 the largest K-12 school system in the world. Wing <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/04\/pentagon-probing-diversity-official-kelisa-wings-tweets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has authored several CRT books and tweets<\/a> promoting <a href=\"https:\/\/openthebooks.substack.com\/p\/agitate-agitate-agitate-militarys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">racial \u201crevolution,\u201d<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/09\/13\/dod-equity-chief-kelisa-wing-has-history-of-ant-white-posts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defunding the police<\/a>, and anti-white attitudes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Military children who otherwise might follow their parents\u2019 service in uniform could be dissuaded by teachings such as this \u2014 another problem for recruiters. And many military children, a mostly captive audience whose parents must follow orders, will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2019\/03\/28\/more-military-children-seeking-transgender-medical-care-report-finds.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exposed<\/a> to even more transgender culture and controversial \u201cgender affirming\u201d treatments.<\/p>\n<p>Also under current policies, male service academy athletes could dominate female cadets\u2019 athletic teams, worsening <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/sep\/7\/applications-west-point-annapolis-drop-recruiting-\/#:~:text=The%20numbers%20of%20applications%20to%20freshmen%20classes%20at,down%20from%2011%2C599%20for%20the%20class%20of%202025.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declining applications<\/a>. The Air Force Academy reports 28 percent fewer applicants for the Class of 2026, while West Point and Annapolis received 10 percent and 20 percent less, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Ignoring all this, Defense Secretary Austin expanded the Pentagon\u2019s military diversity complex. Retired Air Force Gen. Lester L. Lyles, who chaired the notorious 2011 Military Leadership Diversity Commission (MLDC), will head the Defense Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion (DACODAI).<\/p>\n<p>Gen. Lyles\u2019 multi-volume MLDC <a href=\"https:\/\/cmrlink.org\/data\/sites\/85\/CMRDocuments\/MLDC_Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>, which presaged today\u2019s woke military, recommended women in the infantry and \u201cchief diversity officers\u201d to ensure high-rank promotions only for candidates who fully support \u201cdiversity\u201d metrics and the new definition of \u201cequity\u201d as group rights, not individual rights.<\/p>\n<p>The concept, said the MLDC, is \u201cnot about treating everyone the same. This can be a difficult concept to grasp \u2026 especially for leaders who grew up with EO-inspired mandate to be both color and gender blind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon does not need yet another DEI report stacked on top of countless diversity plans, blueprints, and directives. Most reports earnestly proclaim, in some form, \u201cdiversity is a strategic (or operational) imperative.\u201d Special Operations Command\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmrlink.org\/issues\/full\/diversity-and-inclusion-strategic-plan-will-weaken-special-operations-forces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2021 Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan<\/a> repeated that mantra 12 times on 20 pages.<\/p>\n<p>Diverse working groups are beneficial, but most DEI manifestos <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realcleardefense.com\/articles\/2021\/12\/06\/task_force_one_navy_final_report_the_emperors_new_clothes_redux_806507.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cite studies<\/a> having nothing to do with military requirements. The Air Force Academy <a href=\"https:\/\/cmrlink.org\/data\/sites\/85\/CMRDocuments\/DI%2007%20Sept%2022%20Training_copy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">slide show<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2021\/Jan\/26\/2002570959\/-1\/-1\/1\/TASK%20FORCE%20ONE%20NAVY%20FINAL%20REPORT.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Task Force One Navy<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2021\/Jan\/26\/2002570959\/-1\/-1\/1\/TASK%20FORCE%20ONE%20NAVY%20FINAL%20REPORT.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/capabilities\/people-and-organizational-performance\/our-insights\/why-diversity-matters\">footnoted studies<\/a> analyzing <a href=\"https:\/\/rrapp.hks.harvard.edu\/diversity-as-a-tool-in-enhancing-profitability-efficiency-and-quality-of-decision-making\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">civilian business teams<\/a>, not military fighting units.<\/p>\n<p>Is there <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/14\/a-plan-to-make-diversity-equity-and-inclusion-die\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a cure<\/a> for this military woke syndrome? Yes, but the first step in solving a problem is to acknowledge it exists. Instead, Pentagon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/oct\/11\/army-secretary-christine-wormuth-denies-woke-alleg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">officials<\/a> keep emulating <a href=\"https:\/\/knowyourmeme.com\/memes\/comical-ali-baghdad-bob\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Baghdad Bob<\/a> with dissembling <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/30\/john-kirby-wokeness-military-tom-cotton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denials<\/a> of woke policies that are weakening morale and cohesion.
