One EV owner shared his experience, saying:\u00a0\u201cAt the dealership, he looked it up online and said you\u2019re not going to like this,\u201d before delivering a bill of $15,000 plus labor and taxes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">\u201cI don\u2019t understand why they make the battery so expensive when you have to change it,\u201d Phyllis Lau, who owns a 2018 KIA Soul all-electric vehicle,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.ctvnews.ca\/families-shocked-when-battery-replacement-for-electric-vehicle-tops-20-000-1.6116679\">told<\/a>\u00a0CTV News Toronto.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Lau\u2019s\u00a0electric SUV came with a warranty for the battery that covers 160,000 kilometers (99,419 miles), or eight years, whichever comes first. This year, her EV clocked\u00a0in more than 170,000 kilometers, meaning the warranty no longer covers the battery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">When the battery failed, Lau took the vehicle to her local\u00a0dealership, where she was told a battery replacement, after labor and taxes, would come to $23,000. KIA reportedly agreed to foot half the bill, even though the EV was outside\u00a0the warranty period.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThey\u00a0won\u2019t fully cover the cost,\u201d\u00a0Lau said. \u201cThey say the best they can do is half and half.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ken Edwardson, another Canadian EV owner, purchased a\u00a0used 2011 Lincoln MKZ hybrid four years ago, and was shocked to learn that replacing the battery, also after labor and taxes, comes to\u00a0about $20,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the dealership, he looked it up online and said you\u2019re not going to like this,\u201d\u00a0Edwardson told\u00a0CTV News Toronto. \u201cIt was\u00a0about $15,000 for the battery plus labor and taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">The electric vehicle owner added that he doesn\u2019t feel it\u2019s worth it to invest\u00a0$20,000 in a car that is now over ten years old. \u201cI just wasn\u2019t expecting that kind of price to replace the battery,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Lau and\u00a0Edwardson are not alone in their\u00a0frustration over owning electric vehicles \u2014 even drivers of brand new models are experiencing trouble.<\/p>\n<p>An American EV owner who takes\u00a0road trips between Cheyenne and Casper in Wyoming\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/10\/18\/electric-nightmare-ev-owner-details-15-hour-nightmare-trek-in-wyoming\/\">recently revealed<\/a> that his first trip of 178 miles took a staggering 15 hours to complete in his electric Nissan Leaf.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, a man who bought a brand new $115,000 Hummer electric truck was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/10\/05\/man-left-stranded-in-middle-of-the-road-by-his-115k-hummer-electric-truck\/\">left stranded<\/a> in the middle of the road \u2014 and the vehicle had less than 250 miles on it.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, a YouTuber <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/10\/02\/plug-in-fiasco-video-shows-electric-hummer-needs-4-days-to-fully-charge-with-wall-outlet\/\">recently demonstrated<\/a> that buyers of GMC\u2019s new electric Hummer better clear their calendars if the truck is running low on battery charge, as the $80,000+ EV\u00a0will take over four days to fully charge when it is plugged in to a regular house outlet. Moreover, a special\u00a0240-volt charger still takes a full day to charge the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Another YouTuber, with 1.4 million followers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/09\/27\/complete-and-total-disaster-ford-electric-truck-utterly-fails-youtubers-towing-test\/\">conducted an experiment<\/a> with his brand new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup.
