We made a commitment to Canadians that we would act \u2014 and we are. The national freeze will tackle the alarming role of handguns in crime, gender-based violence, and more,\u201d Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino <a href=\"https:\/\/pm.gc.ca\/en\/news\/news-releases\/2022\/10\/21\/freezing-market-handguns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The new rules prevent the purchase, sale, or transfer of handguns within the nation. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-canada-introducing-new-extreme-gun-control-measures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> earlier this year along with proposed measures that would put forward the strictest gun control actions in Canada in four decades. The legislation is still being considered in Parliament. No newly obtained handguns are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/canada-trudeau-announces-ban-handgun-sales-transfers-saying-fewer-guns-means-safer-communities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allowed<\/a> to be brought into Canada from another country as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cFewer guns mean safer communities,\u201d the prime minister\u2019s website noted. \u201cHandguns are the weapon of choice in most firearm-related crimes, which is why limiting the number of handguns is a critical part of our plan to protect Canadians from gun violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cCanadians have the right to feel safe in their homes, in their schools, and in their places of worship. With handgun violence increasing across Canada, it is our duty to take urgent action to remove these deadly weapons from our communities. Today, we\u2019re keeping more guns out of our communities, and keeping our kids safe,\u201d Trudeau said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In the past, Trudeau has weighed in on America\u2019s politics, whether it comes to Second Amendment Rights or the right to life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cUnfortunately, the reality is in our country [gun violence] is getting worse and has been getting worse over the past years,\u201d Trudeau <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/politics\/justin-trudeau-points-us-gun-violence-freeze-handgun-sales-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in May. \u201cWe need only look south of the border to know that if we do not take action, firmly and rapidly, it gets worse and worse and more difficult to counter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Trudeau has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trudeau-comes-to-the-help-of-american-women-in-getting-them-access-to-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that \u201cwomen\u2019s right to choose\u201d is supported in Canada, adding that Canada will \u201chelp out in the United States if [they] need to.\u201d He also called it \u201chorrific\u201d when the Supreme Court ruled to effectively overturn Roe v.
