In case you read well, they\u2019re going to want to see you in a bathing suit.\u2019 And so I read with, like, an assistant casting director and a video camera, and she said, \u2018O.K., thank you.\u2019 And I left. I was, like, Well, that\u2019s fine. I didn\u2019t do well enough. Plus, it was my first audition ever\u2014what are the odds I\u2019m going to get in a movie with Dustin Hoffman?\u201d Davis recalled.<\/p>\n<p>But director Sydney Pollack did like her, and she landed the role opposite Hoffman \u2014 who advised her, among other things, to not sleep with her co-stars. He even gave her a boilerplate line to use if she ever found herself in a position where she had to turn someone down, saying, \u201cSay, \u2018Well, you\u2019re very attractive. I would love to, but it would ruin the sexual tension between us.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I saved that advice away,\u201d Davis explained. \u201cAfter \u2018Tootsie,\u2019 my modeling agent took me and a couple of other actor-slash-models to Hollywood to meet casting directors. He happened to know Jack Nicholson, and every single night Jack Nicholson had dinner with us. Then one day there was a note under the door that said, \u2018Please call Jack Nicholson at this number.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was like, I can\u2019t believe it! So I said, \u2018Hello, Mr. Nicholson. This is Geena the model. You called me?\u2019 He said, \u2018Hey, Geena. When is it gonna happen?\u2019 I was, like, Oh, no\u2014why didn\u2019t I realize this is what it was going to be about?\u201d Davis continued. \u201cBut it immediately came into my head what to say: \u2018Uh, Jack, I would love to. You\u2019re very attractive.
