States and local governments are in charge of making decisions and regulations regarding what vaccines kids need to get in order to attend school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Governor Lee <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovBillLee\/status\/1583164112661381122\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> about his approach to vaccine mandates, stating, \u201cI\u2019ve always said mandates are the wrong approach, &#038; TN has led in pushing back on federal covid vaccine requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThanks to our work with the General Assembly, TN families won\u2019t be impacted by today\u2019s CDC vote. Bill Lee (@GovBillLee) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovBillLee\/status\/1583164112661381122?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 20, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In November of 2021, Lee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huschblackwell.com\/newsandinsights\/tennessee-and-florida-state-law-restrictions-on-employer-vaccine-mandates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitol.tn.gov\/Bills\/112\/CCRReports\/CC9002.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 9077\/Senate Bill 9014 (SB 9014)<\/a>\u00a0into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.butlersnow.com\/2021\/11\/new-tennessee-covid-legislation-has-significant-impact-on-employers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">law<\/a>, banning governmental entities, schools, and local education agencies from mandating that someone get a COVID vaccine. It also does not allow such groups to require a private business or school to mandate \u201cproof of vaccination as a condition to access the private business\u2019s or school\u2019s premises or facilities or to receive the benefits of the private business\u2019s or school\u2019s products or services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Private businesses, schools, governmental bodies, and local education groups are also not allowed to force someone to show proof of vaccination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Leading up to and following the CDC panel\u2019s unanimous decision to recommend the vaccine for the schedule, there was significant pushback and questions from those concerned about the decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Fox News host Tucker Carlson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/factcheck-cdc-coronavirus-vaccine\/fact-check-cdc-can-advise-childhood-vaccine-schedules-but-vaccine-mandates-for-school-attendance-are-decided-at-state-level-idUSL1N31L2LW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>, \u201cThe CDC is about to add the Covid vaccine to the childhood immunization schedule, which would make the vax mandatory for kids to attend school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The CDC replied, \u201cStates establish vaccine requirements for school children, not ACIP or CDC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Carlson noted on his show, \u201cMore than a dozen states follow the CDC\u2019s immunization schedule to set vaccination requirements for children to be educated,\u201d adding, \u201cThe point is, the CDC sets the standard, and then it becomes required across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Alabama\u2019s Republican Governor Kay Ivey also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorKayIvey\/status\/1583201473844088832?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1583201473844088832%7Ctwgr%5Ee23eacaa43d43dacfb60f2bdec33f44778f23a29%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https:\/\/www.al.com\/news\/montgomery\/2022\/10\/parents-make-decisions-alabama-wont-mandate-covid-vaccine-for-kids-after-cdc-vote-ivey-says.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discussed<\/a> the news on Twitter, saying \u201cHere in Alabama, the parents make decisions when it comes to their children\u2019s health care.
