It simply means that the process is working as it is designed to work in Pennsylvania and that election officials are doing their job to count every vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania is among nine states and the District of Columbia that permit election officials to begin processing absentee and mail-in ballots prior to the polls closing, but not before Election Day, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsl.org\/research\/elections-and-campaigns\/vopp-table-16-when-absentee-mail-ballot-processing-and-counting-can-begin.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Conference of State Legislatures<\/a>. As of Oct. 19, more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vote.pa.gov\/About-Elections\/Pages\/Election-Results.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a million Pennsylvania voters<\/a> had applied to vote by mail, with Chapman telling reporters the \u201coverwhelming majority\u201d of mail-in ballot requests have come from Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Delayed election results are not a new phenomenon for Pennsylvania; back in late May, the state took <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/06\/03\/mccormick-concedes-in-pennsylvania-gop-senate-primary-00037220\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over a week<\/a> to finalize the results of its Republican Senate primary that saw Mehmet Oz locked in a close contest with Dave McCormick. Voters in the state also experienced similar delays during the 2020 presidential election, where it took <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/2020-election-live-updates-2020-11-07\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several days<\/a> for the state to be called for then-candidate Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, the U.S. Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/14\/the-same-day-scotus-squashes-pas-illegal-ballots-secretary-of-state-tells-counties-to-break-the-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tossed out<\/a> a lower court ruling that had allowed undated mail-in ballots to be counted, which is a violation of Pennsylvania law. Despite such statutory obligations and the high court\u2019s ruling, Chapman decided to take matters into her own hands and flat-out <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/14\/the-same-day-scotus-squashes-pas-illegal-ballots-secretary-of-state-tells-counties-to-break-the-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told counties<\/a> in the commonwealth that they didn\u2019t need to comply with the ruling. The statement from Chapman has since prompted a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/18\/rnc-sues-pennsylvania-for-telling-counties-to-break-election-law-by-counting-faulty-mail-in-ballots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lawsuit<\/a> from the Republican National Committee and other GOP groups.<\/p>\n<p> Democrats\u2019 2022 Playbook <\/p>\n<p>In predictable fashion, left-wing media outlets are attempting to downplay concerns over delayed election results and regularize incompetent election administration.
