According to campaign finance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/?data_type=processed&#038;contributor_name=chen%2C+clifford&#038;contributor_employer=upmc&#038;contributor_state=PA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">records<\/a>, Chen has given tens of thousands of dollars over the years to Democratic candidates and party committees. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/?data_type=efiling&#038;committee_id=C00765800&#038;contributor_name=chen%2C+clifford&#038;contributor_state=PA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contributed<\/a> $1,330 to Fetterman\u2019s campaign, including <a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/fecimg\/?202110159467842463\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a $500 donation<\/a> in June 2021, before he became Fetterman\u2019s doctor. Chen donated to other Senate candidates running in close races this cycle, including Rep. Val Demings (D., Fla.) and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D., Ga.).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This isn\u2019t about politics,&#8221; Fetterman campaign spokesman Joe Calvello told the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em>. &#8220;It\u2019s an independent, detailed medical report written by John\u2019s primary care doctor based on his latest office visit from last week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman initially downplayed the severity of his stroke and has struggled to speak clearly and process sound during campaign events and interviews. Fetterman\u2019s stroke was caused by a heart condition he was diagnosed with in 2017 but failed to disclose until after his health scare.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman\u2019s supporters have gone on the attack amid questions about his health. His wife Gisele Fetterman <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/fettermans-wife-demands-consequences-for-reporter-who-asked-about-his-stroke-recovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> there should be &#8220;consequences&#8221; for an NBC News reporter who grilled Fetterman last week about his recovery and his reliance on closed-captioning to conduct interviews. She also blasted the <em>Washington Post<\/em> editorial board last month over a piece asserting that Fetterman had &#8220;squandered credibility&#8221; by refusing to release his medical records. Gisele Fetterman said the reliably liberal newspaper published the story for &#8220;clicks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chen said in the letter he has been in routine contact with Fetterman\u2019s neurologist and cardiologist about his recovery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Overall, Lt. Governor Fetterman is well and shows strong commitment to maintaining good fitness and health practices.
