Careful, Mr. Secretary, with too much premature boasting.<\/p>\n<p>Blinken\u2019s na\u00efve comments, practically salivating at the idea of saving Europe, indicate just how much the Biden administration does not want the war in Ukraine to end. The conflict has become the administration\u2019s sacred cow, allowing it to cover up domestic political blunders and receive heaps of praise from European elites, perhaps the toughest crowd globally for the U.S. post-Trump. What goes unsaid is that all this European love comes at the expense of the interests and bank account balances of American households.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. LNG exporters are, for the moment, enjoying a hefty payday. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/todayinenergy\/detail.php?id=53159\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data from<\/a> the first half of 2022 show the U.S. became the world\u2019s leading exporter of natural gas, with a 12 percent increase from the second half of 2021, according to the Energy Information Administration. Compounded by disruption in Russia\u2019s ability to export to Europe, the U.S. sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/more-us-lng-heads-europe-despite-output-constraints-2022-10-03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">70 percent<\/a> of its exports last month alone to Europe. Compared with the same timeframe last year, exports to Europe hovered at only about <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/news\/commodities\/us-natural-gas-exports-europe-surge-energy-crisis-trader-profits-2022-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">20 percent of overall<\/a> U.S. exports. As New England competes with Europe for LNG supply, the region\u2019s power grid operator has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/energy\/new-england-risks-winter-blackouts-gas-supplies-tighten\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned<\/a> of possible blackouts this winter. Meanwhile, energy companies have been profiting approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/news\/commodities\/us-natural-gas-exports-europe-surge-energy-crisis-trader-profits-2022-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$200 million per shipment<\/a> to Europe thanks to record prices there. With a continued influx of U.S. supply, Europe\u2019s prices are likely to start to come down.<\/p>\n<p>But let\u2019s not forget that American producers haven\u2019t had the best relationship with the Biden administration. Almost immediately upon entering office, President Joe Biden canceled the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/01\/20\/executive-order-protecting-public-health-and-environment-and-restoring-science-to-tackle-climate-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Keystone XL pipeline<\/a> and mandated numerous new environmental rules and regulations with executive orders. American producers may be getting a fat payday thanks to Europe, but sustainable long-term production at home remains in jeopardy. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Price Increases at Home <\/p>\n<p>But what about prices for American households this winter? U.S. energy prices have reached <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/17\/energy\/natural-gas-inflation-heat-wave\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">14-year highs<\/a>, sparking calls domestically for a freeze on exports abroad heading into winter to ensure a strong U.S. supply that will directly benefit U.S. consumers. The Biden administration said no thanks. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/exclusive-white-house-rules-out-ban-natural-gas-exports-this-winter-2022-10-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuters reports<\/a> the White House has \u201cruled out any ban or curbs on exports this winter\u201d with a senior administration official quoted as saying \u201cbecause of the steps we and our partners have been taking, gas storage in Europe is at a significantly higher level than last year.
