Unless there was any question as to whether Biden supports abortion up until birth, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2022\/10\/18\/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-october-18-2022\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Tuesday&#8217;s press briefing<\/a> was unable to name any limits the president did support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>RealClearNews&#8217; Phil Wegmann got into it with Jean-Pierre as he tried multiple times to ask about the scope of the WHPA, also accurately raising the issue that it would go beyond codifying <em>Roe v. Wade,\u00a0<\/em>and <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/guybenson\/2022\/05\/06\/fact-check-no-democrats-arent-trying-to-codify-roe-with-radical-abortion-bill-n2606839\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">would actually expand it<\/a>. Another concern is that the bill will invalidate pro-life laws passed at the state level.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wegmann had specifically asked &#8220;would that bill simply codify<em>\u00a0Roe<\/em>? Or would it go farther and overturn individual state abortion restrictions?&#8221; He also asked &#8220;are there any abortion restrictions at all that the president would support?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Pierre stuck to the White House&#8217;s script, which did not actually answer the question. &#8220;What the president is going to do and wants to do and believes in doing is codifying <em>Roe<\/em>. He believes that is what \u2014 it was the \u2014 the law of the land, a constitutional right for almost 50 years. And it\u2019s \u2014 he believes in \u2014 its specific provisions was rightly decided. \u00a0He has said this regularly, including right after <em>Dobbs<\/em>. \u00a0And that has not changed,&#8221; she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wegmann and the press secretary got into it as he charged &#8220;that didn\u2019t answer either question&#8221; and had to educate her on state pro-life laws, pointing out &#8220;there are individual state restrictions on abortion in the \u2014 on the books currently around the country,&#8221; and that &#8220;some of those existed before the <em>Dobbs<\/em> case, before the overturn of<em>\u00a0Roe<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yet Jean-Pierre still insisted &#8220;I just answered that question.&#8221; Granted, she hasn&#8217;t had the best track record of properly answering questions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wegmann sought again to get out of Jean-Pierre as to if Biden supports any abortion restrictions. &#8220;He \u2014 again, he believes in the provisions that <em>Roe<\/em> had. And that\u2019s where he stands. I would suggest you reading it so you get a sense of what the president stands and what he wants to see,&#8221; she responded before Wegmann moved on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhilipWegmann?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@PhilipWegmann<\/a> &#8220;Are there any restrictions whatsoever that the president would support when it comes to abortion?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>KJP: &#8220;He believes in the provisions that Roe had&#8230;I would suggest you reading it.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wLkOB8uqxe\">pic.twitter.com\/wLkOB8uqxe<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Townhall.com (@townhallcom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/townhallcom\/status\/1582444057682673664?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 18, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Jean-Pierre to tell someone else to read something shows some gall, as his questions were to clarify any confusion caused about how far the WHPA. Under the strict confines of <em>Roe,\u00a0<\/em>states were severely restricted in passing pro-life laws, though some laws were still allowed to remain on the books. The WHPA indeed goes further in that it invalidates state pro-life laws. It also allows for taxpayer funded abortions. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also worth reminding that Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/03\/29\/us\/politics\/biden-abortion-rights.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">once supported<\/a> states being able to overturn <em>Roe v. Wade.\u00a0<\/em>He left this point out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/10\/18\/remarks-by-president-biden-at-a-political-event-at-the-howard-theatre\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">his Tuesday remarks<\/a>, though, despite<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, President Joe Biden, as Spencer covered, communicated his priority to the American people come this next Congress, and that&#8217;s to be signing the Women&#8217;s Health Protection Act (WHPA).
