And I wanted to wait, hoping that I could still have kids but I thought I\u2019ll be more evolved the later \u2026 the longer that I wait because I did have a sense that I wasn\u2019t; that I didn\u2019t have a lot of self-esteem, I guess is what you\u2019d call it, but I was really determined that my kids would have self-esteem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davis shares daughter Alizeh, 20, and twin sons Kaiis and Kian, 18, with her ex-partner, plastic surgeon Reza Jarrahy. While Jarrahy claimed they were married since 2001 and divorced in 2017, Davis <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/movies\/geena-davis-never-legally-married\/\">insisted <\/a>that the ceremony they had was symbolic and they were never legally wed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The actress had Alizeh when she was 46 and the twins when she was 48.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When asked how she tries to \u201cempower\u201d her children, Davis said she turned to her parents as role models. \u201cI picked up more from the way my parents modeled their behavior than telling me how to be,\u201d she explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This wasn\u2019t the first time the \u201cBeetlejuice\u201d actress expressed gratitude for being an older mother. In 2020, she told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/culture\/2020\/aug\/09\/geena-davis-as-soon-i-hit-40-i-fell-off-the-cliff-i-really-did\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Guardian<\/a> she was happy to have waited. \u201cI always felt lucky that I had my kids late, because I just feel like I changed so much. I always knew I wanted kids, but what I was doing waiting that long, I don\u2019t know. I never tried before, in other words. But it\u2019s been great. And twins are fun!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/life\/inspirational-stories\/interviews\/a17444\/geena-davis-interview-arp06\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> Good Housekeeping in 2006 that waiting to become a mother meant she didn\u2019t become too involved in her children\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt 100 percent that I would be such a better parent than I would have been even five years earlier and certainly ten or 20 years earlier,\u201d Davis told the publication.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I\u2019d had kids earlier, I could easily have become one of those mothers who over-involve themselves and try to live life through their kids.
