However, the RCP calculated polling averages for past elections significantly understated Republican support, by a mean of 5.2 points.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, adjusted for past undercounting of GOP support, RCP forecasts victory of Oz in the key swing state.<\/p>\n<p>Oz, known as Dr Oz professionally, shot to fame as a TV doctor, appearing in five series of The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/oprah-winfrey\" data-sys=\"1\" class=\"multivariate\">Oprah Winfrey<\/a> Show as a health expert. In 2009, he launched The Dr. Oz Show, which aired until January of this year.<\/p>\n<p>His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/democratic-party\" data-sys=\"1\" class=\"multivariate\">Democratic Party<\/a> opponent, Fetterman, is currently serving as Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>In May, Fetterman was hospitalized after suffering a stroke, saying in a statement: &#8220;I had a stroke that was caused by a clot from my heart being in an A-fib rhythm for too long.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The good news is I&#8217;m feeling much better, and the doctors tell me I didn&#8217;t suffer any cognitive damage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There were renewed fears for Fetterman&#8217;s health earlier this month, when the Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/fetterman-interview-renews-questions-concerns-senate-candidates-health-1750964\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"multivariate\">used &#8216;closed caption technology&#8217;<\/a> to read questions during an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/nbc\" data-sys=\"1\" class=\"multivariate\">NBC<\/a> News reporter Dasha Burns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/fetterman-releases-new-ad-head-off-health-concerns-1752175\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"multivariate\">Burns later tweeted<\/a>: &#8220;In small talk before the interview without captioning, it wasn&#8217;t clear he was understanding our conversation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Oz repeated his call for his rival to publish his medical records, <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrOz\/status\/1582510838727909377\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"multivariate\">tweeting<\/a>: &#8220;Pennsylvania deserves transparency from Fetterman.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, Dr Clifford Chen, Fetterman&#8217;s primary care physician, wrote a letter after another meeting with the candidate on Friday, insisting he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/john-fetterman-doctor-addresses-health-concerns-pennsylvania-midterm-election-senate-1753348\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"multivariate\">capable of serving as an elected official<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It said the Senate hopeful is &#8220;recovering well&#8221; and &#8220;can work full duty in public office.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Biden is expected to meet with Fetterman in Philadelphia, after delivering an infrastructure speech in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>White House Press Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/karine-jean-pierre\" data-sys=\"1\" class=\"multivariate\">Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a> called Fetterman an &#8220;impressive individual&#8221; on Monday, adding: &#8220;The president feels that he is very much capable of doing the job.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/donald-trump\" data-sys=\"1\" class=\"multivariate\">Donald Trump<\/a> held a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, last month to support Oz and the GOP&#8217;s candidate for state governor, Doug Mastriano.<\/p>\n<p> Combination photo, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz and Democratic Pennsylvania Senate nominee John Fetterman  Getty <\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Newsweek<\/em>, Reed Galen, co-founder of anti-Trump conservative group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-taunted-new-lincoln-project-ad-theyre-turning-you-republicans-1734330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"multivariate\">The Lincoln Project<\/a>, raised concerns about the number of GOP candidates standing next month who don&#8217;t recognize the 2020 presidential election result.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;Election deniers will destroy confidence in our democratic institutions because they don&#8217;t care about the truth and are uninterested in governing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their only purpose is to obtain power so they can reinstate Donald Trump as President in 2024 regardless of the outcome of<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trump ally Mehmet Oz is on course to win his Pennsylvania Senate battle against Democratic rival John Fetterman, according to new analysis.
