If they are vaccinated, they are far less likely to get seriously ill. They\u2019re far less likely to end up in the hospital, far less likely to end up in the ICU,\u201d Jha said.<\/p>\n<p>However, some critics say there is far from enough clinical data on the COVID vaccine in children for the shot to be made mandatory for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has never been a vaccine added to the child immunization schedule without solid clinical evidence that it reduces disease significantly in the community. The COVID vaccine in children will be the first. It will be added with no clinical data,\u201d said Dr. Marty Makary, a\u00a0surgeon and professor at Johns Hopkins University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of us are asking, why even have an FDA? Why even do clinical trials?\u201d\u00a0Makary told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on\u00a0Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some are concerned about the vaccine\u2019s risks for younger recipients.<\/p>\n<p>For boys and young men ages 12 to 24, certain mRNA-based COVID vaccines\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jama\/fullarticle\/2788346\">increased<\/a> their risk of developing myocarditis, or the\u00a0inflammation of the heart muscle that can reduce the heart\u2019s ability to pump blood, according to some studies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The COVID vaccine may soon be added to the childhood vaccination program.
