In a gas-fuelled vehicle, that trip, on average, takes around 3 hours.<\/p>\n<p>But for\u00a0O\u2019Hashi, he <a href=\"https:\/\/cowboystatedaily.com\/2022\/10\/13\/wyoming-ev-road-trip-15-hours-from-cheyenne-to-casper\/\">told<\/a> the Cowboy State Daily that it took \u201c15 hours to get from Cheyenne to Casper,\u201d adding, \u201cIt was very difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Hashi said that trip took place in May 2022, noting that a month later, it took him 11 hours to travel between the two cities.<\/p>\n<p>Electric vehicles\u2019 battery ranges are unpredictable because owners must factor in extra distances to charging stations, mountainous or hilly terrain, and winds, he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019ve learned from driving this thing is patience,\u201d O\u2019Hashi said.<\/p>\n<p>During one part of his first trip, O\u2019Hashi said that he stopped in the city of Wheatland to use a 220-volt plug-in charger at an RV park. He recalled that his Leaf was down to 1 percent battery life when he pulled into the charging station there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I could sit there for two hours and get enough charge to get to Casper, but just barely,\u201d O\u2019Hashi said, adding that when he travels, he favors stopping at old motels. The reason, he explained, is that he can run an extension cord out a window to charge his electric vehicle overnight.<\/p>\n<p>While staying at the motel, O\u2019Hashi said he could get enough charge for 40 miles of travel in one night.<\/p>\n<p>Oftentimes, while waiting for his car to charge, O\u2019Hashi said he spends extra money shopping or eating. That\u2019s in addition to the charging cost.<\/p>\n<p>Using an electric vehicle inspired him to write a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Trail-Electric-Vehicle-Anxiety-navigating\/dp\/B0B8BD9MX8\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1XA408TTSNXAF&#038;keywords=On+the+Trail%3A+Electric+Vehicle+Advice+and+Anxiety.&#038;qid=1666100233&#038;qu=eyJxc2MiOiIwLjgwIiwicXNhIjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&#038;sprefix=on+the+trail+electric+vehicle+advice+and+anxiety.%2Caps%2C87&#038;sr=8-1\">book<\/a>, \u201cOn the Trail: Electric Vehicle Advice and Anxiety,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Officials in California and New York have issued <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/new-york-state-adopt-california-2035-ev-rules-2022-09-29\/\">rules<\/a> that require most new vehicles sold in their respective states to be electric or a plug-in hybrid by the year 2035. Concerns have been raised about the feasibility of such plans, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6182044\/electric-vehicle-battery-lithium-shortage\/\">amount<\/a> of lithium it would take to manufacture enough batteries for electric vehicles. Currently, the lithium supply chain is dominated by China.<\/p>\n<p>Another concern is the price.
