Doug Ducey did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Customs and Border Protection awarded a contract to close two gaps in the border barrier, according to the letter.<\/p>\n<p>C.J. Karamargin, a spokesperson for Ducey, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/border-issues\/2022\/10\/14\/federal-officials-say-arizona-gov-ducey-broke-law-shipping-containers-border\/10499065002\/\">told the Arizona Republic<\/a> that state officials aren\u2019t acting until they see the contract.<\/p>\n<p>Some 122 containers were placed along the border in Yuma County, including 80 on bureau lands and 42 on\u00a0Cocopah Indian Tribe lands, according to federal authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Ducey, a Republican, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/arizona-has-had-enough-starts-stacking-shipping-containers-in-border-wall-gaps_4661360.html\">ordered the containers<\/a> to be placed in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArizona has had enough,\u201d Ducey said at the time. \u201cWe can\u2019t wait any longer. The Biden administration\u2019s lack of urgency on border security is a dereliction of duty. For the last two years, Arizona has made every attempt to work with Washington to address the crisis on our border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yuma County Sheriff\u2019s Office deputies said that the containers have helped prevent illegal immigrants from crossing into the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur deputies have noticed traffic is slowing down,\u201d one of them <a href=\"https:\/\/kyma.com\/news\/top-stories\/2022\/10\/17\/federal-government-asks-arizona-to-remove-shipping-containers-in-yuma-border-wall-gaps\/\">told KYMA-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Lines, the county\u2019s supervisor, said that the number of gotaways\u2014illegal immigrants who evaded capture\u2014has been driven down due to the containers.<\/p>\n<p>Customs and Border Protection\u2019s Yuma Sector has recorded a sharp increase in illegal immigration since President Joe Biden took office, along with a number of other sectors. Illegal immigration has exploded under Biden, setting new records for fiscal and calendar year apprehensions. The number of gotaways has also jumped.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Cocopah Indian Tribe issued a statement in support of the Biden administration\u2019s action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe the Bureau is taking the necessary and appropriate action to resolve this issue,\u201d the tribe said. \u201cBeyond that, we will continue working side-by-side with local, state and federal law enforcement on securing the border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-zachary-stieber\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Follow<\/p>\n<p>Zachary Stieber covers U.S. and world news for The Epoch Times.
