West, who recently changed his first name from Kanye, implied in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ye-west-turns-latest-interview-into-disturbing-anti-semitic-rant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an interview<\/a> that first aired Sunday that the 46-year-old Floyd died from an overdose and not at the hands of Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, who was later convicted of murder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI watched the George Floyd documentary that Candace Owens put out,\u201d West said in the interview. \u201cOne of the things that his two roommates said was they want a tall guy like me, and the day that he died, he said a prayer for eight minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey hit him with the fentanyl,\u201d West continued. \u201cIf you look, the guy\u2019s knee wasn\u2019t even on his neck like that,\u201d Ye insisted of Chauvin.<\/p>\n<p>West was referring to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/get.dailywire.com\/the-greatest-lie\/subscribe-today?utm_campaign=greatestlie&#038;utm_medium=paid&#038;utm_source=bing&#038;utm_content=na_subscriptions&#038;cid=greatestlie&#038;mid=b&#038;xid=0&#038;utm_term=the%20greatest%20lie%20ever%20told&#038;utm_campaign=&#038;utm_source=bing&#038;utm_medium=ppc&#038;hsa_acc=6411461344&#038;hsa_cam=686367422&#038;hsa_grp=1321614520723848&#038;hsa_ad=&#038;hsa_src=o&#038;hsa_tgt=kwd-82601746142130:aud-808681081:loc-190&#038;hsa_kw=the%20greatest%20lie%20ever%20told&#038;hsa_mt=e&#038;hsa_net=adwords&#038;hsa_ver=3&#038;msclkid=e6c01285a038134278e371ca9840ba74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Greatest Lie Ever Sold<\/a>,\u201d a documentary by Owens that explored Floyd\u2019s death, Chauvin\u2019s conviction and the rise of Black Lives Matter, the protest group that raised tens of millions of dollars in the wake of Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit will accuse West of making the comments \u201cto promote his brands, and increase marketing value and revenue for himself, his business partners and associates,\u201d the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon &#038; Dixon Attorneys at Law said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile one cannot defame the dead, the family of George Floyd is considering suit for Kanye\u2019s false statements about the manner of his death,\u201d attorney Lee Merritt said Sunday.\u00a0\u201cClaiming Floyd died from fentanyl and not the brutality established criminally\u00a0and civilly undermines and diminishes the Floyd family\u2019s fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law firm sent West a cease-and-desist letter Tuesday saying he has \u201cmaliciously made statements that are inaccurate and unfounded, causing damage to Mr. Floyd\u2019s estate and family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeorge Floyd\u2019s daughter is being re-traumatized by Kanye West\u2019s comments and he\u2019s creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her,\u201d Witherspoon said in the statement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The mother of George Floyd\u2019s daughter plans to sue Ye West for $250 million following the rap and fashion mogul\u2019s alleged claim that Floyd\u2019s death in 2020 was caused by a fentanyl overdose, her lawyers announced Tuesday.
