She also has a 4% share of Amazon, which has made her one of the richest women on the planet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Girl Scouts has been struggling since the COVID pandemic, which resulted in fewer members. The group will reportedly use the money to help volunteers and employees, as well as make camp locations more durable against weather events, and enhance the science and technology schooling for its younger scouts. It also wants to incorporate diversity and inclusion efforts, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/10\/18\/1129638080\/girl-scouts-mackenzie-scott-donates-85-million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Young members in the organization dropped around 30% in 2019-2020 to 2021-2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur traditional way of supporting girls was really upended during the pandemic as troops couldn\u2019t really meet in person,\u201d Sofia Chang, CEO of Girls Scouts of the USA, reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/10\/18\/1129638080\/girl-scouts-mackenzie-scott-donates-85-million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cSo to build back stronger than we ever had before, we\u2019re really listening to our Girl Scouts, listening to their families and to our volunteers to really ensure that what comes next for us is truly impactful in this moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Chang also said that Scott\u2019s \u201csupport of our organization means honestly just as much as the donation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cWe are so appreciative,\u201d Chang noted in a statement <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/human-interest\/mackenzie-scott-girl-scouts-donation-history-divorce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">received<\/a> by PEOPLE. \u201cThis is a great accelerator for our ongoing efforts to help girls cultivate the skills and connections to lead in their own communities and globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-6\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cThe support from all our donors, including this generous support from MacKenzie, is critical in delivering on our work of reimagination and transformation,\u201d added Chang. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to prove how MacKenzie\u2019s investment in girls will change the world \u2014 because when one girl succeeds, we all succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Southern Arizona\u2019s Girl Scout council will use the money it was given \u2014 $1.4 million \u2014 to lift up the initiatives it is already taking part in, according to the group\u2019s CEO Kristen Garcia-Hernandez.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe are a small council and we\u2019re certainly not in a major metropolitan hub. So for us, gifts of this magnitude don\u2019t come around very often,\u201d Garcia-Hernandez <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/wireStory\/millions-cookies-mackenzie-scott-girl-scouts-85m-91677020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 2019, Scott <a href=\"https:\/\/mackenzie-scott.medium.com\/116-organizations-driving-change-67354c6d733d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> she wanted to donate most of her money. She has given around $12 billion to organizations since then, including a massive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/03\/23\/1088390733\/mackenzie-scott-donation-planned-parenthood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">donation<\/a> of $275 million to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its regional partners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Scott said in an announcement at the time that the main focus of her giving is to support \u201cunderrepresented people from groups of all kinds,\u201d adding, \u201c[t]he cause of equity has no sides. Nor can it have a single solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe are all human.
