And it\u2019s simple and it\u2019s easy, it\u2019s fast,\u201d Biden said in remarks delivered from the South Court Auditorium of the White House. \u201cYou\u2019ll be able to fill out your name, Social Security number, date of birth, and contact information. No forms to upload. No special log-in to remember. It\u2019s available in English and in Spanish, on desktop and mobile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden said the application will take \u201cless than five minutes\u201d to complete and will be a \u201cgame changer for millions of Americans,\u201d noting that it took an \u201cincredible amount of effort to get this website done in such a short time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-admin-to-cancel-10000-of-student-loan-debt-for-millions-despite-inflation-concerns_4685966.html?utm_medium=search&#038;utm_source=ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0in August that he plans to cancel\u00a0up to $10,000 in student loan debt for individuals making less than $125,000 a year, or as much as $20,000 for eligible borrowers who were also Pell Grant recipients.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-admin-quietly-makes-reversal-on-student-loan-forgiveness-program-scales-back-eligibility_4765952.html\">update<\/a> on Sept. 29 states that\u00a0borrowers\u00a0who have federal student loans that are owned by private entities and not by the Department of Education will no longer\u00a0qualify for the relief program.<\/p>\n<p>Borrowers have until Dec. 31, 2023 to submit an application.<\/p>\n<p>The White House said on Monday that over\u00a08 million borrowers had already applied for loan forgiveness through the beta version of the website \u201cwithout a glitch or any difficulty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/09\/30\/miguel-cardona-1200x810.jpeg\"><\/a> President Joe Biden announces student loan relief with Education Secretary Miguel Cardona (R) at the White House in Washington, on Aug. 24, 2022. (Olivier Douliery\/AFP via Getty Images) Lawsuits Mounting <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had over 10,000 people contact the White House and be\u2014either send us letters or calls thanking us,\u201d Biden claimed.<\/p>\n<p>His comment\u2019s come as a number of\u00a0Republican-led states and business groups\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/six-states-sue-biden-education-secretary-over-student-debt-cancellation_4764111.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filed a lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0against the loan forgiveness plan, which comes in the midst of soaring inflation,\u00a0contesting that it is illegal.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the\u00a0Job Creators Network Foundation Legal Action Fund,\u00a0a small-business advocacy group, became the latest group to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/another-lawsuit-filed-against-bidens-student-debt-relief-plan-arguing-move-is-inflationary_4788188.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\">file suit against Biden\u2019s plan<\/a>, arguing that it is\u00a0counterproductive, inflationary, and that it is in violation of the\u00a0Administrative Procedure Act\u2019s notice-and-comment procedures through which the administration should have sought the\u00a0public\u2019s input or comment on the program.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the mounting lawsuits on Monday, Biden told reporters: \u201cRepublican members of Congress and Republican governors are trying to do everything they can to deny this relief, even to their own constituents.\u00a0Their outrage is wrong and it\u2019s hypocritical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The administration has said the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students (HEROES) Act of 2003, grants the Department of Education the authority\u00a0to cancel so much debt for so many people, citing the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Around\u00a043 million people are eligible for relief under the loan forgiveness plan, administration officials had previously said.<\/p>\n<p>Borrowers in<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tens of millions of Americans across the country are now eligible to apply for\u00a0student loan cancellation under President Joe Biden\u2019s\u00a0loan\u00a0forgiveness program despite a number of lawsuits opposing the scheme.
