The news comes as candy producers, like many other American industries, grapple with <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/supply-chain\">supply chain<\/a> issues, <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/jobs\">labor shortages<\/a>, and other phenomena worsening higher price levels. Halloween enthusiasts are nevertheless prepared to buy 5% more candy and chocolate than last year, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/candyusa.com\/news\/93-percent-of-americans-plan-to-celebrate-the-2022-halloween-season\/\">report<\/a> from the National Confectioners Association.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe past few years have proven that the confectionery industry is resilient, and Americans remain enthusiastic about enjoying their favorite treats during seasonal celebrations like Halloween with friends and family,\u201d National Confectioners Association CEO John Downs remarked. \u201cChocolate and candy play a special role during the Halloween season in communities across the country \u2014 and this Halloween promises to be especially impressive as chocolate and candy companies bring consumers classic, innovative and great-tasting products that enhance the season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Executives at Hershey have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/retail-consumer\/hershey-raises-annual-adjusted-profit-growth-forecast-2022-07-28\/\">said<\/a> that the company would fail to meet demand for Halloween, which accounts for one-tenth of its revenue, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and related shortages of cocoa, edible oil, and other ingredients. Nestl\u00e9, the world\u2019s largest food company, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/worlds-largest-food-company-will-raise-prices-amid-inflation\">repeatedly increased<\/a> prices in response to inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the price pressures, overall Halloween spending will increase from $10.1 billion last year to $10.6 billion, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/nrf.com\/media-center\/press-releases\/halloween-participation-returns-pre-pandemic-levels-record-spending\">report<\/a> from the National Retail Federation, marking a recovery from the lockdown-induced recession. Consumers plan to spend an average of $100 on candy, decorations, and costumes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHalloween is an exciting time for many families, and that enthusiasm is reflected in the number of Americans who plan to celebrate the holiday this year,\u201d National Retail Federation CEO Matthew Shay said. \u201cAs consumers continue to return to pre-pandemic behaviors, retailers are prepared to meet that demand and help make this holiday a fun and memorable one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response to the most recent inflation data, President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/shows-some-progress-biden-responds-to-another-dismal-inflation-report\">acknowledged<\/a> the cost pressures while arguing that his legislative agenda has helped to alleviate related fallout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s report shows some progress in the fight against higher prices, even as we have more work to do,\u201d he said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/10\/13\/statement-by-president-joe-biden-on-the-september-consumer-price-index-report\/\">statement<\/a>. \u201cBut even with this progress, prices are still too high. The economy and inflation are key issues among voters preparing to cast ballots in the upcoming midterm elections, with 84% considering the former to be a top factor on their minds.
