Mitt Romney\u2019s (R-UT) aides are \u201cso annoyed\u201d that Sen. Mike Lee\u2019s (R-UT) comments exposed how Romney\u2019s lack of endorsement for Lee will help Never Trumper Evan McMullin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">On Fox News, Lee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/elections\/2022\/10\/14\/utah-senate-mcmullin-lee-romney\/\">urged<\/a> Romney to back his reelection, noting that the rest of the Senate Republican Conference has endorsed his bid.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cAll 48 of my other Republican colleagues are on board with me \u2026 It\u2019s not too late, Mitt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Romney and Lee reportedly spoke after the interview. However, Romney has refused to endorse Utah\u2019s senior senator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">The move has appeared to incense Romney staffers.<\/p>\n<p>Romney aides are \u201cso annoyed that Mike Lee won\u2019t leave it alone,\u201d a person who regularly speaks with Romney\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Evan-McMullin.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Utah\u2019s Evan McMullin speaks during an interview on July 23, 2022, in Provo, Utah. (Rick Bowmer\/AP)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News reported that Romney\u2019s refusal to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/09\/29\/mitt-romneys-refusal-to-endorse-mike-lee-could-cost-republicans-the-senate-majority\/\">endorse<\/a> Lee has infuriated Senate Republicans, as it is typically custom for colleagues of the same political party to endorse each other, especially when they hail from the same state.<\/p>\n<p>Romney has claimed that he will not endorse Lee over independent and Never Trumper McMullin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">Pundits and pollsters have noted that Romney\u2019s lack of endorsement has served as a \u201cboon\u201d for McMullin\u2019s bid, whose support comes from Democrats, moderates, and moderate-leaning Republicans in Utah.<\/p>\n<p>Kirk Jowers, a former legal adviser for Romney who is backing Lee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/elections\/2022\/10\/14\/utah-senate-mcmullin-lee-romney\/\">said<\/a> McMullin \u201ctalks nonstop about Romney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich has put an 800-pound gorilla in the room that is frustrating to both the Lee and Romney camps,\u201d Jowers remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Utah Republican Party Chairman Carson Jorgensen said,\u00a0\u201cA Republican candidate should be supporting their Republican colleagues, and that\u2019s all there is to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Romney\u2019s refusal to endorse Lee over McMullin continues to cause divisions in the Republican Party as McMullin will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/10\/14\/self-proclaimed-independent-evan-mcmullin-fundraise-democrat-jon-tester\/\">fundraise<\/a> with Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT). McMullin has repeatedly claimed that if he were elected to the Senate he would remain independent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">On Sunday he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2022\/10\/16\/evan-mcmullin-if-elected-i-will-not-caucus-with-either-side\/\">claimed<\/a> that he would not \u201ccaucus\u201d with Republicans or Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Sean Moran is a congressional reporter for Breitbart News.
