The U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) explains why this happens: &#8220;Drug shortages are caused <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3278171\/\" target=\"_blank\">by many factors<\/a>, including difficulties in acquiring raw materials, manufacturing problems, regulatory issues, and business decisions, as well as many other disturbances within the supply chain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These other factors can be as simple as a sudden increased demand, which may happen due to things like allergy or flu season, but COVID has added to that sense of urgency, due to both supply chain issues\u2014such as with the alarming 2022 <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/buying-baby-formula-online-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">baby formula shortage<\/a>\u2014and because the virus causes symptoms that necessitate over-the-counter (OTC) meds.<\/p>\n<p>If the past two-and-a-half years\u2014and the continuing disruption of supplies around the world\u2014are any indicator, we could be <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/medication-shortages-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">facing shortages<\/a> of popular OTC drugs.
