The Russian official made the comments during an interview on Russian state television, saying that Moscow would engage in talks with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/09\/could-greece-and-turkey-really-go-war\/\">Turkey<\/a> and the West on ways to bring the conflict to an end.<\/p>\n<p>United States Department of State spokesman Ned Price responded to the comments, describing how the White House has \u201cvery little confidence\u201d that the offer was genuine given that the comments came only hours after Russia finished <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/10\/putin-is-so-desperate-in-ukraine-he-is-attacking-apartment-buildings\/\">bombing residential buildings<\/a> and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe see this as posturing. We do not see this as a constructive, legitimate offer to engage in the dialogue and diplomacy that is absolutely necessary to see an end to this brutal war of aggression,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/russia-open-putin-meeting-biden-g20-lavrov-says-2022-10-11\/\">Price said.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p><strong>What Does Russia Want?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>At some points during the conflict, Russia engaged in peace talks while in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/10\/a-winter-war-in-ukraine-favors-russia-and-will-be-bloody\/\">somewhat of a position of power<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Russian forces have made gains throughout Ukraine over the last several months, though much of those gains have since been lost.
