They are grateful for your prayers and good wishes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 56-year-old Mutombo \u2014 who was known for his philanthropy and his playful finger wag after blocked shots \u2014 is second in league history in blocks, played for six teams and made eight All-Star teams. In the offseason following his last All-Star selection, with the 76ers in 2002, he was traded <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/15\/nets-finally-showing-cohesiveness-ahead-of-nba-opening-night\/\">to the Nets <\/a>for Keith Van Horn and Todd MacCulloch.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/1429653365.jpg\"><\/a>Dikembe Mutombo reveled he has a bran tumor.Getty Images <\/p>\n<p>Injuries limited him to just 24 games (16 starts) <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/15\/will-steve-nashs-reunion-with-igor-kokoskov-unlock-nets\/\">for the Nets<\/a>, but Mutombo served as the sixth man, playing every game in the NBA Finals loss to the Spurs.<\/p>\n<p>    Follow all the basketball buzz in Brooklyn  <\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\"> Sign up for Inside the Nets by Brian Lewis, exclusively on Sports+. <\/p>\n<p>After the Nets bought him out the next offseason, Mutombo crossed the Hudson River and signed a two-year deal with the rival Knicks. He played 65 games that season, including a dominant 10-block performance against the Nets.<\/p>\n<p>Mutombo, who was drafted fourth overall in 1991 by the Nuggets, played 18 seasons, for Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Houston, as well as the Nets and Knicks. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015, and has worked for charitable and humanitarian causes.The Dikembe Mutombo Foundation spearheaded the building of a 170-bed hospital in Kinshasa, the Congo\u2019s capital city. The facility has cared for almost a half-million people, regardless of their ability to pay for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Simmons <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/14\/ben-simmons-talks-joel-embiid-relationship-after-joining-nets\/\">fouled out <\/a>after just 13 minutes on Friday in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said, \u2018You might as well go straight to the bike and get some conditioning.\u2019 I don\u2019t think he was ready for the joke,\u201d coach\u00a0 Steve Nash said.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons \u2014 who finished with two points, six assists and two boards \u2014 fouled out with 10:26 left in the third quarter, the quickest disqualification of his career. He had a long on-court chat with ref Nick Buchert during the first half, and was in disbelief while leaving the court just moments into the third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, I probably wouldn\u2019t be laughing if it was the regular season. But it\u2019s the preseason,\u201d said Simmons, who noted the Wednesday game against the bruising Bucks was far more physical than Friday against the uber-tall Timberwolves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was talking with the refs, obviously adjusting.
