The ordinance conflicts with a law that blocks localities from making their own gun regulations. Second Amendment activists advanced so-called state preemption laws to protect gun owners from having to navigate a patchwork of local regulations. Gun-control activists have objected to such laws as being too restrictive on local authority.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"posts-content__category-widget md:hidden -ml-4 -mr-4 my-8 px-4 py-6 bg-gray-100\">\n<h4 class=\"mt-0 text-red-600 font-medium font-sans uppercase\">Recent Stories in Guns<\/h4>\n<ul class=\"list-none p-0\">\n<li class><a class=\"text-black block mb-3 pb-3 border-b border-white\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/guns\/washington-appeals-court-unanimously-strikes-down-local-gun-control\/\"><strong>Washington Appeals Court Unanimously Strikes Down Local Gun-Control\u00a0Law<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li class><a class=\"text-black block mb-3 pb-3 border-b border-white\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/guns\/bill-would-add-gun-rights-protections-for-veterans\/\"><strong>New Bill Would Protect Veterans from Gun Confiscation<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li class><a class=\"text-black block mb-3 pb-3 border-b border-white\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/guns\/gun-control-groups-lash-out-at-biden\/\"><strong>Gun-Control Groups Lash Out at Biden<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Second Amendment Foundation and National Rifle Association, which jointly filed the suit against the ordinance, cheered the ruling.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;Today&#8217;s ruling is an important victory for the people of Washington,&#8221; Lars\u00a0Dalseide, NRA Washington state spokesman, said in a statement.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, told the\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Washington Free Beacon<\/span><\/em><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the win will also &#8220;help the cause of protecting preemption nationally.&#8221; Gun-control advocates have pushed cities and localities in Washington and across the country to pass gun restrictions in an effort to test the limits of preemption laws. They have had little success at circumventing or overturning them thus far and Gottlieb said Monday&#8217;s win will only strengthen the legal case for state preemption laws.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Edmonds mayor Mike Nelson did not return a request for comment.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Activists have filed suits to challenge gun-control laws in other cities. They are confident that the precedent set in the Edmonds suit will have a domino effect in other Democratic strongholds in the state.
