Meanwhile Custer would end up finishing 24th.<\/p>\n<p> [embedded content] <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boundingintosports.com\/2022\/10\/chase-elliott-criticizes-nascars-next-gen-car-and-the-ongoing-safety-issues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chase Elliott Criticizes NASCAR\u2019s Next Gen Car And The Ongoing Safety Issues: \u201cThere\u2019s No Excuse\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the race, NASCAR announced they would be reviewing Custer\u2019s actions, but their review would have no impact on the competitors who made it into the Round of 8.<\/p>\n<p>A statement noted, \u201cNASCAR is reviewing data, video and radio transmissions from the 41 car following its incident on the backstretch during the final lap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNASCAR will communicate the results of the review early this week. Any potential penalties would not affect the Round of 8 field,\u201d it concluded.<\/p>\n<p> Erik Jones, Cole Custer, Austin Dillon, Tyler Reddick, and Chase Briscoe via NASCAR YouTube <\/p>\n<p>NASCAR has found that Custer was guilty with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nascar.com\/news-media\/2022\/10\/11\/nascar-penalizes-custer-no-41-shr-team-after-charlotte-playoff-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASCAR.com reporting<\/a> he and his \u201cteam was penalized under Section 5.5 of the NASCAR Rule Book, which requires competitors to race at 100% of their ability and takes action against competitors who intend to \u2018artificially alter\u2019 the race\u2019s finishing positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NASCAR fined both Custer and his crew chief Michael Shiplett $100,000 and Shiplett was suspended indefinitely. They also issued a 50-point penalty to Custer and his team in both the Driver and Owner standings.<\/p>\n<p>What might surprise some is that despite fining Custer and his crew chief NASCAR.com notes \u201cBriscoe had qualified for the playoffs\u2019 Round of 8 without the benefit of Custer\u2019s block.\u201d So how did they rule he was artificially altering the race when they determined his block didn\u2019t even aid his teammate in qualifying for the Round of 8?<\/p>\n<p> Cole Custer, Austin Dillon, and Chase Briscoe via NASCAR YouTube <\/p>\n<p>Scott Miller, NASCAR Senior VP of Competition, explained the penalty despite Custer\u2019s block seemingly not actually affecting the finishing positions according to NASCAR, \u201cWhen we got to the audio, and had the crew chief telling the driver that, \u2018I think you got a flat (tire).
