Liz Cheney, who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/18\/analysis-if-not-for-democrat-voters-cheneys-loss-would-have-been-even-more-devastating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overwhelmingly<\/a> lost her August primary to Trump-endorsed attorney Harriet Hageman, put forward the resolution. She said, \u201cWe are obligated to seek answers directly from the man who set this all in motion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The timing of the resolution, however, exposes the committee\u2019s request as a performative political tactic. Trump\u2019s subpoena was handed down in the last moments of the final hearing, which was rescheduled to take place on the same day as the final inflation report before the upcoming midterm elections. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/cpi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> to the Department of Labor Thursday, the Consumer Price Index rose faster than expected again, rising 8.2 percent in September and remaining <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/1675\/most-important-problem.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">top of mind<\/a> for voters.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for the committee\u2019s subpoena of Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jaketapper\/status\/1580624783389380608?s=20&amp;t=7ALQG9-tVMDJrIqaIXu2uQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaked<\/a> to CNN an hour before the resolution was even adopted to gin up media excitement for the nearly three-hour-long hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The Capitol riot, meanwhile, ostensibly the focus of the committee\u2019s investigation despite just a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/13\/jan-6-committee-avoids-probing-security-failures-as-hearing-finally-covers-capitol-riot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fraction<\/a> of its resources dedicated to probing security failures, is now 22-month old history while Election Day looms less than four weeks away. The Select Committee to investigate the riot was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-resolution\/503\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">established<\/a> in June last year and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/07\/21\/nancy-pelosi-kicks-ranking-republicans-jim-jordan-jim-banks-off-partisan-jan-6-commission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">barred<\/a> minority representation for the first time in House history. If the committee were truly \u201cobligated\u201d to hear from the former president, a subpoena should have been issued at some point over the last 16 months instead of 25 days from an election.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s final hearing offered no more substance to the committee\u2019s pre-determined narrative pinning the riot at the Capitol entirely on Trump. The proceedings were largely a recap of the committee\u2019s prior eight hearings <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/22\/j6-committee-hires-another-television-producer-to-dramatize-show-trials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">produced for television<\/a>, where Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/13\/second-j6-hearing-criminalizes-republicans-for-election-objections-after-democrats-made-them-for-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criminalized objections they made for decades<\/a> and presented <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/30\/if-the-jan-6-committee-is-into-investigating-unbelievable-stories-it-should-probe-trumps-gorilla-channel-next\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hysterical<\/a> claims <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/11\/jan-6-committee-admits-it-isnt-even-trying-to-verify-bombshell-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">left uncorroborated<\/a> and even <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/29\/new-j6-narrative-about-trump-and-secret-service-collapses-hours-after-tuesday-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contradicted<\/a>. At some moments, the committee <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/27\/exclusive-former-white-house-staffer-confirms-jan-6-committee-lied-about-doj-attorney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">made up<\/a> evidence altogether.<\/p>\n<p>In June, former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified that Trump tried to hijack the presidential limousine by violently assaulting a Secret Service agent in an effort to drive himself to the U.S. Capitol. Hours after her appearance, Hutchinson\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mbQ8VSvX_Sc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bombshell<\/a>\u201d testimony, which relied entirely on third-party hearsay, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/29\/new-j6-narrative-about-trump-and-secret-service-collapses-hours-after-tuesday-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">collapsed<\/a> when her sources went on record to refute her claims. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterAlexander\/status\/1541910389289635841?s=20&amp;t=Tvaip-48DtkZminETvp-CQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NBC<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NicoleSganga\/status\/1541921124031799297?s=20&amp;t=R3GbmqSnH0Gk7E2O4tG9lA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CBS<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GabbyOrr_\/status\/1541940680716599298?s=20&amp;t=d6PXc2uG3O_9NIgSeTOONA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN<\/a>\u00a0each reported that Hutchinson\u2019s sources were prepared to go under oath to testify that nothing she said ever happened.<\/p>\n[<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/26\/exclusive-in-private-cassidy-hutchinson-joked-about-riot-called-j6-committee-phony-praised-trump-before-changing-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Exclusive: In Private, Cassidy Hutchinson Joked About Riot, Called J6 Committee\u2019 Phony,\u2019 Praised Trump Before Changing Story<\/a>]\n<p>Rep.
