The segregated events will take place throughout the spring 2021 academic year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to fliers obtained by The Daily Wire, the first meeting allowed parents to air their grievances with the school district and explain their \u201clived experiences.\u201d The second meeting focused on putting those feelings into attainable goals and change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAfter a deep dive into the feel of our community and the challenges faced within the district, it is time to evaluate and share with the Cabinet and those in positions who can actually create change tailored to your collective needs and demands,\u201d the flyer reads. \u201cLet\u2019s not sugarcoat what you need or want to see change.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The third event told parents that their input would help the school district make changes to the curriculum and programs currently being offered. \u201cWe also desire to learn about any specific programs you believe would be most effective to your child\u2019s academic success or potentially adjust programs currently offered,\u201d the flyer reads.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The events have been promoted by the school, though they are run and operated by Oliver Petty, a California activist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to a Val Verde Unified School District teacher \u2014 who wishes to remain anonymous \u2014 the district is already embedding ethnic studies classes into 11th-grade U.S. History classes and 10th-grade literature classes. The teacher claims that the district is changing the name of \u201cU.S. History\u201d class to \u201cRace and Gender in U.S. History.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Documents obtained by The Daily Wire reveal the new themes for the upcoming \u201cRace and Gender in U.S. History\u201d course. The class is broken down into four themes, culture, barriers\/social stratification, bias, and activism.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The first theme focuses on \u201cculture\u201d where students \u201cwill look at the nature of race, ethnicity, class, gender, language, societal norms, and values as methods for the development of a self and\/or cultural identity.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The second theme focuses on barriers for certain racial groups and social stratification. \u201cStudents will explore how economic inequalities and social stratification can lead to barriers and issues of unequal power within a society,\u201d the proposed learning plan reads.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The focus question for the \u201cbarriers\/social stratification\u201d theme asks students, \u201chow do disenfranchised individuals resist against unjust societal norms and\/or laws?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The third theme is \u201cbias\u201d and asks students to learn about and \u201cunderstand the concept of institutionalized biases and how they lead to social inequalities.\u201d This will likely encompass lessons on institutionalized racism and oppression as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The final theme is activism. \u201cStudents will develop civics oriented projects to address social inequalities that exist within their local communities,\u201d the curriculum reads. \u201cStudents will be encouraged to promote social awareness and social activism.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The listed focus words for the \u201cactivism\u201d portion of the curriculum include \u201ccivil disobedience\u201d and \u201csocial activism.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Val Verde Unified School District and superintendent did not respond to multiple requests for comment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
