The Department shares President Biden\u2019s commitment to protecting the rights of all students and is committed to fulfilling our nation\u2019s promise of equal educational opportunity.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Under President Trump, the Office for Civil Rights<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/about\/offices\/list\/ocr\/docs\/investigations\/more\/01194025-a2.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">notified<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference that including transgender women in women\u2019s sports violated Title IX protections and resulted &#8220;in lost benefits and opportunities for female student-athletes.&#8221; The Education Department had referred the case to the Justice Department, which released a<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.natlawreview.com\/article\/justice-department-says-title-ix-doesn-t-cover-transgender-status-student-athletes\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">brief<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stating that Connecticut\u2019s policy violated Title IX.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But the office\u2019s Tuesday<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/adfmedialegalfiles.blob.core.windows.net\/files\/WithdrawalSouleDOEImpendingEnforcementLetterRevised.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">letter<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said the former interpretation of Title IX &#8220;should not be relied upon.&#8221; The office also withdrew the referral of the case to the Justice Department.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The move is the latest push from Democrats to expand Title IX protections to include transgender women\u2014which<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AbigailShrier\/status\/1362874848632918021\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">opponents<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">say could erase those same protections for biological women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Wednesday, the House is expected to vote on the Equality Act, which would require federally funded institutions like universities to accommodate students in housing, restrooms, and sports teams based on the gender they identify as instead of their biological gender.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In Connecticut, 15 transgender athletes have won state titles in women\u2019s sports and 13 have set new state records, Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R., Missouri) said at a Heritage Foundation event on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She warned that the Equality Act would essentially abolish women\u2019s sports in the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;It endangers women&#8217;s opportunities to win and to compete and to get scholarships.
