This was a major breach of national security by the federal government,\u201d\u00a0Ernst told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to answers on how and why this unlawful transfer occurred. We have to ensure this never happens again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The senators had requested the investigation in a Sept. 14 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.senate.gov\/services\/files\/4F5B0769-8175-4481-BEB8-72D8F4C42ADD\">letter<\/a> to Donaldson that was prompted by an Aug. 3 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-npr\">NPR<\/a> report entitled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/search\/?query=%22The%20U.S.%20made%20a%20breakthrough%20battery%20discovery%20-%20then%20gave%20the%20technology%20to%20China.%22&#038;page=1\">\u201cThe U.S. made a breakthrough battery discovery\u2014then gave the technology to China.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Chinese received the technology via two separate transfers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Energy, in this case, twice handed over vanadium redox battery technology created by scientists at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The first recipient of this technology, a Chinese company by the name of Dalian Rongke Power Co. Ltd., received a sublicense from DoE in 2017 to manufacture the batteries in China,\u201d Barrasso and Ernst told Donaldson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second recipient, Vanadis Power, a Dutch company, received a full license in 2021. However, Vanadis plainly stated on their official website that they planned to manufacture the batteries in China.
