That letter was widely viewed as an attempt to get the DOJ to silence opponents of the treatments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis request by advocacy organizations to have the federal government stifle critical speech on their behalf would have been unthinkable before your tenure as Attorney General,\u201d wrote the senators, Ted Cruz, of Texas; Mike Lee, of Utah; Ron Johnson, of Wisconsin; Roger Marshall, of Kansas; and Marsha Blackburn, of Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to note that violence and threats are not protected speech and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,\u201d the letter continued. \u201cHowever, parents who voice their concerns about the health and safety of their children, or express opinions on matters of public policy more generally, are engaged in core First Amendment activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In a letter sent by Cruz to A.G. Garland, Cruz accused the Justice Department of a &#8216;continued pattern of abusing its investigative authority to police the speech of Americans and stifle ongoing policy debates.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LjDH09rRtN\">https:\/\/t.co\/LjDH09rRtN<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vXhhzySEwv\">pic.twitter.com\/vXhhzySEwv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rebel News (@RebelNewsOnline) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RebelNewsOnline\/status\/1579950143981248513?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 11, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>The lawmakers noted that Garland\u2019s DOJ had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bidens-education-secretary-solicited-nsba-letter-comparing-parents-to-domestic-terrorists-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coordinated with the Biden administration and the National School Boards Association<\/a> in an effort to paint parents critical of local school boards as \u201cdomestic terrorists.\u201d They asked for any communications the DOJ may have had with the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, and\/or Children\u2019s Hospital Association about the trans treatment for minors issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issue of how best to treat minors struggling with their gender dysphoria is the subject of ongoing and emotional debate, which Americans have a protected First Amendment right to fully engage in,\u201d the letter stated. \u201cYour actions in regard to the NSBA letter sent an inappropriate message that federal law enforcement can and will be used to aid one side of a political debate, and to either silence or chill the speech of the other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The issue of chemical and surgical treatment of gender-dysphoric minors has made headlines in recent months. Although hospitals long insisted they don\u2019t perform radical surgeries on minors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-insurance-data-reveals-shocking-number-of-minors-obtained-transgender-surgeries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a shocking report<\/a> from Reuters last week using data analyzed by\u00a0health technology company Komodo Health revealed that thousands of children have been put on puberty blockers and hormones, hundreds of gender-dysmorphic girls have undergone mastectomies, and as many as 56 children ages 13-17 underwent genital surgeries from 2019 to 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire\u2019s Matt Walsh, who exposed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/vanderbilt-university\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vanderbilt<\/a>\u00a0University Medical Center\u2019s transgender treatment on minors, will hold a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/matt-walsh-announces-rally-to-end-child-mutilation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rally to End Child Mutilation<\/a>\u201d October 21 at the Tennessee state capitol.
