The move garnered little media attention or controversy \u2013 just as the White House had hoped.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\">\n<\/div>\n<p>But the ramifications of this order are raising major questions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biden partially revoked\u00a0Presidential Policy Directive 28 \u2013 a directive governing how federal agencies used signals intelligence to spy on citizens. Signals intelligence includes phone calls, text messages, emails, and internet use.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The original rule, established under President Obama, restricted the government from arbitrarily spying on US citizens. If the government\u00a0were to spy on US citizens, the government was required to apply through the courts for permission. Policy Directive 28 was essentially a way to keep government minimally accountable as it played the role of Big Brother government listening in.<\/p>\n<p>Biden essentially lifted these restrictions Friday \u2013 including revoking a\u00a0provision that would prevent the government from targeting its political enemies and critics:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe United States shall not collect signals intelligence for the purpose of suppressing or burdening criticism or dissent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Biden Administration has offered little explanation as\u00a0to why this rule\u00a0was quietly revoked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Critics, however cite this move as a travesty\u00a0against civil liberties \u2013 citing\u00a0Biden\u2019s new executive order as an expansion of government spying on US citizens without oversight.<\/p>\n<p>That the move would help Biden further politicize the FBI and US intelligence agencies and allow the\u00a0administration to plow full speed into prosecuting its critics and personal enemies lists.<\/p>\n<p>For some perspective; the original presidential directive was responsible for requiring the government to procure FISA warrants. That is, a court document approved by a judge establishing the government\u2019s probably cause \u2013 and in turn, giving\u00a0the government license to spy on US citizens in the name of national security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As of Friday and Biden\u2019s revocation of this order, Biden has now made it so FISA warrants are no longer necessary.
