Sean Casten (D-Ill.) and his wife said in a statement that Gwen Casten died in June of a sudden cardiac arrhythmia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn layman\u2019s terms, she was fine, and then her heart stopped,\u201d the grieving parents said. \u201cWe don\u2019t know what caused the arrhythmia, and likely never will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Liberty of medicine, arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat. It can refer to a heart that is beating too quickly, too slowly, or with an otherwise irregular pattern.<\/p>\n<p>Gwen died on June 13, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-rep-sean-castens-17-year-old-daughter-dies-at-familys-home_4532300.html\">her family announced<\/a>. At the time, they said they wouldn\u2019t discuss details of the death.<\/p>\n<p>According to media reports, Gwen died in the family\u2019s home just before 7 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>In the update, the Castens said the teen died after spending time with friends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe had just come home from an evening with friends, went to bed, and didn\u2019t wake up,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>The parents said Gwen was a healthy teenager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe ate well, exercised, got regular check-ups, didn\u2019t suffer from any behavioral health issues, and had close relationships with family and friends,\u201d they said, adding that she had received a COVID-19 vaccine. She had also tested positive for COVID-19 on multiple occasions, but did not experience symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are heartbroken, but we are not unique,\u201d the Castens said. \u201cSudden unexplained heart-failure among young, healthy people is rare but real. We are left grasping at the wrong end of random chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Casten, 50, represents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-illinois\">Illinois<\/a>\u2019 6th Congressional District. He has been in office since 2019. He married his wife, Kara, in 2000.
