The Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act purports to offer injured soldiers <a href=\"https:\/\/dividedwefall.com\/2021\/02\/23\/bidens-healthcare-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">medical care<\/a>, but this is false.<\/p>\n<p>Reportedly, \u201cThe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2022\/09\/28\/tens-of-thousands-more-veterans-will-be-eligible-va-health-care-starting-oct-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bill<\/a>\u00a0extends the eligibility period for VA hospital care, medical services, and nursing home care for combat veterans who served after September 11, 2001, and were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2022\/08\/10\/president-signs-historic-toxic-exposure-bill-extending-benefits-millions-of-veterans.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exposed<\/a>\u00a0to toxic substances, radiation, or other conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other elements of the legislation include the provision of training about exposure to toxic substances, funding the further analysis of morbidity and mortality data and trends in cancer among veterans, and providing for the development and publication of a list of Veterans Affairs (VA) resources for affected veterans and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act is what happens when government malfeasance is exposed: Washington accepts no accountability and provides a\u00a0faux solution through legislation that solves nothing. The government\u2019s response to the incident at Camp Lejeune is another example.<\/p>\n<p>At Camp Lejeune, for more than three decades, the drinking water was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/disability\/eligibility\/hazardous-materials-exposure\/camp-lejeune-water-contamination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contaminated<\/a>\u00a0with benzene and other medically injurious chemicals resulting in various cancers, other devastating illnesses, and even deaths on Camp Lejeune\u2019s premises.<\/p>\n<p>So Washington responded with a bill extending insurance \u201celigibility\u201d to the people who fell ill from drinking this water. The words \u201cmedical care\u201d did not appear anywhere in the bill. There were no provisions for who would provide care or where and when care could be attained. The afflicted were only granted additional insurance benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic politicians and bureaucrats conflate insurance\u00a0benefits\u00a0with tangible medical\u00a0care\u00a0in the form of services and medication. Despite\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearhealth.com\/articles\/2018\/06\/28\/conflating_health_insurance_with_health_care_110797.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0proving they are quite different, many people still hold to the false belief that the provision of insurance directly manifests in health care. It doesn\u2019t. In fact, as new regulations are promulgated, as coverage is expanded, and as more money goes to insurance companies and federal bureaucrats,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanthinker.com\/blog\/2020\/05\/seesaw_effect_overturns_false_healthcare_wisdom.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">access to care<\/a>\u00a0goes down!<\/p>\n<p>Neither words on paper nor freshly printed dollar bills provide medical care. People do. Only trained professionals using modern facilities\u00a0in adequate numbers<em>\u00a0<\/em>can deliver the promised care. The VA, and for that matter, the whole health care system, is insufficiently staffed. With a shortage of both people and places, patients wait in line so long for needed care that they die. An internal VA audit reported that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/oig\/pubs\/VAOIG-14-01792-510.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">47,000 veterans<\/a>\u00a0may have died\u201d waiting for technically possible but unavailable life-saving care.<\/p>\n<p>Washington is notoriously bad at \u201clegislating\u201d medical care for Americans.\u00a0After all, saying someone has a right to a good or service does not make that good or service manifest. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) made medical care<em>\u00a0<\/em>less available. Before the ACA, the average maximum wait time to see a physician was an unacceptable 99 days. After the ACA was implemented, wait time had increased to an unconscionable 122 days.<\/p>\n<p>Like veterans with Tricare insurance, Medicaid enrollees experience\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2OWKbLs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">death-by-queueing<\/a>.\u00a0According to reporter Nick Horton, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinoispolicy.org\/hundreds-on-medicaid-waiting-list-in-illinois-die-while-waiting-for-care-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">752 Illinoisans<\/a>\u00a0on the state\u2019s Medicaid waiting list have died awaiting needed care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is the tragedy of 12-year-old\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/perspectivesofchange.hms.harvard.edu\/node\/165\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deamonte<\/a> Driver,\u00a0who died of a brain abscess that came from an untreated dental cavity. No pediatric dentists were willing to accept Medicaid patients in his home city of Prince George, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>Between the low\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckersasc.com\/asc-news\/physicians-brace-for-8-42-cut-to-cms-rates-many-consider-dropping-medicare-patients.html?origin=PhysicianE&amp;utm_source=PhysicianE&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=newsletter&amp;oly_enc_id=0228C6658590I9E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reimbursement<\/a>\u00a0rates and the frustrating, time-and-money-consuming paperwork, increasing numbers of physicians are refusing to see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kaiserhealthnews.org\/Stories\/2012\/August\/06\/Third-Of-Medicaid-Doctors-Say-No-New-Patients.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Medicaid<\/a>\u00a0and Medicare patients.\u00a0According to a recent\u00a0survey,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mgma.com\/getmedia\/b0716bbf-d21f-4ead-b1cb-9371485e62ff\/09-21-2022-Impact-of-Payment-Reductions-to-Medicare-Rates-in-2023-Full-Report.pdf.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">92 percent<\/a>\u00a0of medical group practices report that Medicare payments do not cover the cost of providing care.\u00a0If doctors want to stay in business, they must turn away Medicare patients.<\/p>\n<p>Ignore Washington\u2019s grandiose rhetoric and reassuring promises that never materialize. The evidence is clear. Every time Democrats expand insurance coverage, legislate additional benefits, and pass more health care regulations, Americans\u2019 access to care goes down.<\/p>\n<p>Only by\u00a0reducing\u00a0the number and scope of health care regulations and shrinking the federal health care bureaucracy can Americans get the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2OWKbLs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">medical care<\/a> they need. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Biden recently signed S. 3541 into law, making another promise he can\u2019t keep to America\u2019s veterans.
