What has happened? Can\u2019t believe this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old, who had hit a sponsorship hoarding dislodged by an opening lap crash for Ferrari\u2019s Carlos Sainz, had pitted for a new front wing and was trying to catch up with the rest of the field.<\/p>\n<p>Sainz\u2019s crash was one of a number of first-lap incidents, as drivers struggled with poor visibility and scrabbled for grip on the rain-soaked asphalt.<\/p>\n<p>Pictures showed the light panels by the side of the track change to red from yellow just before Gasly drove past the recovery vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The sport\u2019s governing body, FIA, said the race had been neutralised by the safety car.<\/p>\n<p>Stewards said they would investigate the incident, with Gasly under investigation for speeding under red flag conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Other teams and drivers expressed their concern at an incident that stirred memories of Frenchman Jules Bianchi\u2019s crash at the Japanese Grand Prix in October 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Bianchi suffered severe head injuries after colliding with a recovery vehicle in the wet, and died in hospital in July the following year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow\u2019s this happened!? We lost a life in this situation years ago. We risk our lives, especially in conditions like this. We wanna race. But this \u2026 unacceptable,\u201d said McLaren\u2019s Lando Norris on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we need to discuss a tractor on track \u2026 we can keep it short: this must NOT happen, guys,\u201d said Austrian former racer Alex Wurz, chairman of the Grand Prix Drivers\u2019 Association.<\/p>\n<p>Sainz told Sky Sports television: \u201cI still don\u2019t know why we keep risking, in these conditions, having a tractor on track.
