Well, most men will get prostate cancer if they live long enough. Cut the risk by eating these two foods.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>\nProstate Health: How To Reduce The Risk Of Cancer<\/h3>\n<p>A few years ago, I reported on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t-nation.com\/lean-built-eating\/tip-the-best-food-to-eat-for-prostate-health\/\">meta-study<\/a> that revealed a stunning negative correlation between eating carrots and prostate cancer. In more folksy terms, a team of smart guys looked at a bunch of related studies and found that eating carrots protected men\u2019s prostates from cancer.<\/p>\n<p>It gets better: For every 10 grams of carrots eaten each day, men reduced their risk of developing prostate cancer by 5%. That meant that if the men in the studies ate a big enough carrot every day (the average carrot weighs about 70 grams), they could cut their chances of developing prostate cancer in half.<\/p>\n<p>Great, but get this: Another study reported that men who ate at least 3 large tablespoons of peas, pinto beans, or other legumes every day also cut their risk of prostate cancer in half.<\/p>\n<p>Are you reading me? You take the 50% from the carrots study and add the 50% from the legume study and that equals 100%! Spoon some beans, munch a carrot and boom! Case closed. A prostate like Superman\u2019s \u2013 spongy yet impervious to cancer, bazooka fire, or the cruelly long and bony finger of Lex Luthor disguised as a proctologist.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, wait a minute. My co-workers are telling me that the maths don\u2019t work that way.<\/p>\n<p>No matter. It\u2019s still a compelling strategy.<\/p>\n<h3>\nLots Of Cases, Lots Of Promising Data<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2aac0c1aeddf3c8cbc24ed5d0ed6732859231af3.jpeg\" alt=\"Carrots\" data-base62-sha1=\"65uF7ZnQJSFZ3pcUCwicwJPoZG3\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Chinese carrot study comprised of 408 controls and 244 cases, and the average age was 68. Sure enough, their study showed an inverse, dose-response association between the consumption of carrots (and a similar effect from eating tomatoes).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a French researcher named Abou Diallo looked at the results of a study that followed 3,313 men between 1994 and 2007. All the men were cancer-free when the study began, and Diallo had divvied them up into three equally sized groups based largely on their dietary intake of fruits, vegetables, and beans.<\/p>\n<p>While Diallo also found a prostate-protective effect from fruits and vegetables in general, it didn\u2019t reach the level of statistical significance. However, a high intake of beans, peas, and other legumes did protect the prostate to a statistically significant level. Specifically, men who ate an average of 26.5 grams of legumes (about 3 large tablespoons) per day had a 47% lower risk of developing cancer than men who ate a smaller amount.<\/p>\n<h3>\nWhere\u2019s The Magic Come From?<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/eb6eaab91a4c8d8aea8b06810181bc8cefdfba62.jpeg\" alt=\"Eat-These-Beans-to-Get-Lean\" data-base62-sha1=\"xAJj6YJaG6O3GxpqOO3dcbwDzAS\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Chinese\/carrot researchers, when they dug further into their results, theorized that the reduction in cases of prostate cancer was related to higher intakes of <a href=\"https:\/\/biotest.t-nation.com\/products\/p-well\">lycopene<\/a> (a red plant pigment, specifically, a carotenoid), of which carrots and tomatoes are rich.<\/p>\n<p>The inverse association was independent of other factors usually associated with prostate cancer, like age, family history, and body mass index.<\/p>\n<p>So, lycopene, yes. But what about the bean study? What was it about legumes that might have prevented new cases of prostate cancer? The French researchers had several theories:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Legumes have lots of fiber, and there seems to be an inverse relationship between fiber intake and prostate cancer because fiber seems to down-regulate inflammation, probably through the short chain fatty acids (SCFA) that are formed when the fiber is fermented by the bacteria in the gut. (These fermentation products have anti-inflammatory properties, and inflammation is a suspected culprit in prostate cancer.)<\/li>\n<li>Increased concentrations of sex hormones (primarily estrogens) are associated with prostate cancer and dietary fibers sop them up, kind of like throwing wood chips on an oil slick. These bound-up sex hormones are then excreted with the rest of the fecal trash.<\/li>\n<li>Other studies show that insulin resistance and hyper-insulinemia (having a bunch of insulin trekking around your blood vessels) leads to an increase in insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) concentrations, which may promote prostate cancer. Carrots are easy as you can munch on one anytime. Beans, however, are slightly more problematic. For instance, adding beans to a meal doesn\u2019t always work, especially if you\u2019re having some sort of ethnic cuisine with which beans don\u2019t exactly marry well, e.g., serving Lima beans with sushi, or herring with a side of pinto beans. Yuck-o.
