href=\"https:\/\/www.nascar.com\/news-media\/2022\/10\/05\/nascar-hits-no-4-cup-team-with-l2-level-penalty-for-modification-of-single-source-part\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASCAR.com reports<\/a> the penalty was issued after Harvick\u2019s vehicle was selected as one of two cars along with Martin Truex Jr.\u2019s No. 19 to be taken back to the NASCAR Research &#038; Development Center after the race at Talladega Superspeedway.<\/p>\n<p>Following the inspection of the vehicle, NASCAR determined Harvick and his team had an \u201cunapproved modification for a single-source part.\u201d NASCAR.com notes the infraction fell \u201cunder the heading of Sections 14.1 (vehicle assembly) and 14.5 (body).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5308\" claims the part in question is the deck lid.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote on Twitter, \u201cIt is my understanding that the part in question in the Harvick penalty is the deck lid.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure Twitter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The punishment for the infraction is a 100-point penalty for Harvick in the driver\u2019s standings as well as a 100-point penalty for the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing team.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the point penalty, Harvick\u2019s crew chief, Rodney Childers, was also suspended for four races and fined $100,000.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5595\" criticizing NASCAR for their single source supplied parts.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Cook Out Southern 500 at the beginning of September where his car caught fire around lap 45 of Stage 3, Harvick told NBC Sports, \u201cI\u2019m sure it\u2019s just the crappy parts on the race car like we\u2019ve seen so many times. We haven\u2019t fixed anything. It\u2019s kind of like the safety stuff, we just let it keep going and keep going. And the car started burning and as it burns, you know, the flames started coming through the dash and I ran a couple of laps and then as the flame got bigger it started burning stuff up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Specifically referring to the moment when he brought the car to a stop he says, \u201cAnd I think right there you see all the brake fluid that was coming out of the brakes. It burned a brake line. But the fire was coming through the dash.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Harvick then exclaimed, \u201cWhat a disaster, man! No reason. We didn\u2019t touch the wall, we didn\u2019t touch a car, and here we are in the pits with a burned up car and can\u2019t finish the race during the playoffs because of crappy a** parts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just stopped. The rocker was on fire for a couple laps. We just keep letting cars burn up, letting people crash into stuff, get hurt. We don\u2019t fix anything. Now, we just riding around out there and the car catches on fire. So just s***ty parts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked how this affects his race in the playoffs Harvick responded, \u201cWell, they don\u2019t care. Data didn\u2019t agree. Effectively they took the rear half of the car and they had to really strengthen it up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later in the segment, Keselowski detailed how they had to strengthen the rear clip even further because of issues with the transaxle breaking, \u201cBacking up, some of our fans at home I\u2019m sure remember earlier in the season at the Clash, the first race of the year, we had a couple cars actually dropped out of the race because the transaxle broke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the reason why it broke was because the rear clip wasn\u2019t strong enough. So we\u2019ve actually even gone back from the start of the year and made it even stronger to try to make up for this transaxle.
