Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter Wednesday to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, saying that 665 FBI employees, including 45 senior officials, left the bureau to \u201cavoid accountability\u201d from 2004 to 2020. However, Grassley speculated that the number could be much higher, considering the dataset does not include retirement or resignations that may have occurred during or before the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe allegations and records paint a disgraceful picture of abuse that women within the FBI have had to live with for many years,\u201d Grassley wrote in the letter first shared with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/hundreds-fbi-employees-resigned-retired-sexual-misconduct-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>. \u201cThis abuse and misconduct is outrageous and beyond unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grassley said the whistleblower\u2019s report showed a \u201csystemic failure\u201d within the Justice Department and the FBI to protect female employees from sexual harassment and sexual misconduct in the workplace, adding that officials failed to punish those employees guilty of such misconduct sufficiently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFBI employees should not have to suffer under daily abuse and misconduct by their colleagues and supervisors,\u201d Grassley wrote.<\/p>\n<p>David J. Shaffer, a Washington attorney representing several alleged victims of sexual misconduct in the FBI, told <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-personnel-sexual-misconduct-chuck-grassley-merrick-garland-9ca9ea18036814bdf12e8c62a20e08d9?taid=633f00ee62e530000133cf54&amp;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&amp;utm_medium=AP&amp;utm_source=Twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a> that \u201cthe most serious abuse of the FBI disciplinary system is to retaliate against the very women who complain by starting investigations against them after they report sexual misconduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shaffer said it discourages reporting in the FBI \u201cdue to fear of retaliation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tracy Walder, a former FBI agent, left the bureau in 2006 after she filed a sexual harassment complaint. And although she does not believe the entirety of the FBI behaves in such a way, the misconduct is allegedly pervasive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, because of the way I was treated,\u201d she told <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-personnel-sexual-misconduct-chuck-grassley-merrick-garland-9ca9ea18036814bdf12e8c62a20e08d9?taid=633f00ee62e530000133cf54&amp;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&amp;utm_medium=AP&amp;utm_source=Twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>. \u201cI feel a sense of shame and \u2018What if?\u2019 And this behavior has been allowed to continue for decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the FBI told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/hundreds-fbi-employees-resigned-retired-sexual-misconduct-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Examiner<\/a> that the agency \u201clooks critically\u201d at itself and would continue to make improvements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is, employees who commit gross misconduct and sexual harassment have no place in the FBI,\u201d the spokesman said. \u201cWe prioritize investigation and adjudication of sexual harassment and misconduct cases, and when allegations of sexual harassment are substantiated, FBI employees face severe consequences, including permanent demotion, removal from supervisory ranks, or termination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The AP reported that Grassley\u2019s office declined to reveal the whistleblower\u2019s name to protect the person\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amid ongoing accusations of the FBI becoming a weaponized agency against the American people after storming former President Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago home and targeting pro-life activists standing up for unborn children, a whistleblower has revealed more damning evidence in the agency surrounding sexual misconduct allegations.
