Bob Latta (R-OH) led the Republican pushback, along with almost three-quarters of the Republicans in the House of Representatives. The lawmakers don\u2019t want Biden to approve the State of California\u2019s Air Resource Board (CARB) Clean Air Act waiver request.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The board\u2019s new rules would require 35% of all new car sales in California to be electric vehicles by 2026, with all internal combustion engines done away with by 2035, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/150-house-republicans-call-biden-reject-californias-waiver-request-green-car-regulations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Washington Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/oct\/6\/house-republicans-urge-joe-biden-reject-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> that 68% of cars need to be electric by 2030. The state already voluntarily has a high number of electric vehicles. The outlet reported that around 16% of new cars sold during the first half of 2022 were zero-emission vehicles, per the California Energy Commission. Almost 10% of cars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/data-and-statistics\/data-product\/global-ev-outlook-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sold<\/a> around the world were electric last year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/technology-california-clean-air-act-vehicle-emissions-standards-eebb48c13e24835f2c5b9cb56796182a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seventeen<\/a> states have vehicle emissions rules connected to California\u2019s actions, and could decide to create new regulations like those California is attempting to push.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Republicans wrote to Biden, asking him to \u201creject California\u2019s forthcoming request for this waiver due to widespread concerns for the negative impact it will have on the electric grid, the need for additional power generation, the overreliance on foreign adversaries for critical minerals, and the right of Americans to choose for themselves which vehicles they wish to drive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">They said it is \u201cdisconcerting that California is attempting to ban ICE vehicles when there have already been real world examples showing California\u2019s grid will not be able to handle the increased electric load,\u201d reportedly discussing how the government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-asks-residents-to-avoid-charging-electric-vehicles-due-to-blackout-risk-days-after-unveiling-new-gas-car-ban\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> people who live in California not to charge their electric cars during a heat wave following the news about the policy change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">During California\u2019s recent heat wave, residents were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-reaches-highest-energy-costs-since-2020-outages-residents-are-asked-to-reduce-power-use\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> to reduce power use when solar energy generation was not available, creating a situation many realize will not improve with more cars on the road and an undependable electric grid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 150\u00a0Republican\u00a0legislators are asking President Joe\u00a0Biden\u00a0to not accept\u00a0California\u2019s recent green energy car rules by refusing the state\u2019s request for a waiver.
