Ivey said in his notice that Texas is a state with a \u201crich history\u201d where the people are \u201cproud, independent, and resilient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have every confidence that Texas and ERCOT will emerge from this crisis better than before,\u201d Ivey\u2019s letter said.<\/p>\n<p>More than 3 million people and businesses reportedly went without power in Texas last week after a massive cold front hit the state, leaving citizens in below-freezing temperatures that led to frozen pipes and a water crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/boil-water-notice-goes-out-in-texas-capital-amidst-severe-winter-weather\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported that the whole city of Austin, Texas, was under a boil water notice, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Shortages have also been affecting the Texas energy grid, which left millions of Texans without power amidst the wave of cold weather. In response to calls to conserve energy, the Texas Capitol has gone dark, with the exception of certain safety lights, according to the local news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/local\/austin\/texas-capitol-dark-wednesday-night-after-large-buildings-told-to-conserve-power-downtown\/\">KXAN<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The National Weather Service forecasts that snow and ice will continue to affect many areas of the U.S. already struggling through Friday night. Currently, more than 100 million people are under some sort of winter-related National Weather Service advisory, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national\/power-outages-winter-storm-texas\/2021\/02\/17\/1e848bce-7159-11eb-93be-c10813e358a2_story.html\">notes<\/a> The Washington Post.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>ERCOT oversees about 90 percent of the energy production in Texas and is reportedly not subject to federal regulations because it has its own energy grid.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said last week that reforming ERCOT is a top priority and he urged the Legislature to investigate ERCOT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Texans were in desperate need of electricity, ERCOT failed to do its job and Texans were left shivering in their homes without power,\u201d Abbott said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/news\/post\/governor-abbott-statement-on-resignation-of-ercot-leadership\">statement<\/a>\u00a0Tuesday. \u201cERCOT leadership made assurances that Texas\u2019 power infrastructure was prepared for the winter storm, but those assurances proved to be devastatingly false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor added that he \u201cwelcomed\u201d the resignations, saying, \u201cThe State of Texas will continue to investigate ERCOT and uncover the full picture of what went wrong, and we will ensure that the disastrous events of last week are never repeated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
