Disguised under <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.github.io\/birdwatch\/aliases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an alias<\/a> that is not \u201cpublicly associated with contributors\u2019 Twitter accounts,\u201d birdwatchers who deem inconvenient or damning tweets to be \u201cmisinformation\u201d are granted the power to add their own \u201ccontext\u201d to certain tweets for all to see.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly two years into the program, it\u2019s clear that the accounts Twitter deemed worthy of \u201cfact-checking\u201d belong to most of the same left-wing liars who run the corporate media and publicly call for the censorship of anyone who disagrees with them. <\/p>\n<p>Seeing the success Birdwatch has yielded for Twitter, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/03\/if-facebook-twitter-and-google-hide-information-for-the-worlds-rulers-elections-are-a-scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not-so-secret goal<\/a> is to<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/30\/twitter-locked-my-account-for-telling-the-truth-about-rachel-levine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> memory-hole conservatives who speak the truth<\/a>, the Big Tech platform is expanding the program beyond its test phase. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you use Twitter in the US, you\u2019ll begin seeing notes occasionally in your Twitter feed starting today,\u201d Twitter\u2019s Birdwatch account tweeted on Thursday. \u201cBut don\u2019t expect to see them all the time \u2014 notes only show up when they earn a status of \u2018Helpful,\u2019 and the contributor base is small (and growing).\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"3mJDxdaXFQbv0sLRrcPi7zz1rGfOuotHTLZ8IBeUgX25vPDgBKN0pMR9GbjayEfWpdEJiln4OHC\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We\u2019ve been building and studying Birdwatch in public for over a year. There are a lot of reasons to be skeptical of a participatory process (boaty mcboatface) and there are a lot of reasons to believe in it (democracy). We\u2019ve seen over time that Birdwatch notes are, on average:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Birdwatch (@birdwatch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/birdwatch\/status\/1578004578771079172?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Twitter encouraged users to embrace the growing crowdsourcing program for the sake of \u201cdemocracy\u201d but it\u2019s not hard to see how the Big Tech platform and the elites who are elevated on it could harness this power to do the opposite: swing elections in their favor regardless of voters\u2019 feelings. <\/p>\n<p>The Big Tech platform is no stranger to swinging elections. After all, it was one of the first social media companies to expurgate the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell mere weeks before the 2020 presidential election and lock the account of the legitimate news organization that reported it. <\/p>\n<p>Even after the 2020 election, Twitter had no qualms about censoring former President Donald Trump\u2019s calls for peace during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. That censorship and the company\u2019s subsequent decision to banish Trump from the platform indefinitely were used as evidence by the sham House Jan. 6 Committee in their efforts to keep the former president from ever returning to the White House. <\/p>\n<p>Making Birdwatch public is a last-ditch attempt by Twitter to use manufactured consensus to influence Americans, especially those who are already heading to the polls to cast their votes. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also one of the last opportunities for Twitter employees, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/a-twitter-employee-exodus-could-be-just-around-the-corner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">distressed and chagrined<\/a> by the idea that free speech could be restored on the site, to use their power to influence election outcomes (again) before <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/05\/how-to-survive-elon-musks-pro-free-speech-twitter-a-guide-for-the-corrupted-national-press\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Elon Musk purchases the Big Tech platform<\/a>. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
