The logs are no longer visible to the public but were <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-10-05\/inside-mar-a-lago-pardons-white-house-emails-legal-bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">caught<\/a> by <i>Bloomberg News<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/appeals-court-speeds-up-doj-special-master-appeal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JUSTICE DEPARTMENT SCORES WIN AGAINST TRUMP IN MAR-A-LAGO RAID CASE ON SPECIAL MASTER APPEAL<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>The logs were created by the Justice Department&#8217;s in-house &#8220;Privilege Review Team&#8221; and include two sections. The first mostly lists Mar-a-Lago documents pertaining to government matters, and the second outlines documents that the filter team believes might need to be returned to former President Donald Trump. <\/p>\n<p>Among the material listed to return to Trump was a &#8220;medical letter&#8221; and documents relating to Trump&#8217;s legal squabbles over the years, such as a settlement with the PGA Tour, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p>In its list of government documents, the team identified a list of documents named \u201cThe President\u2019s Calls,\u201d which included handwritten notes accompanied by the presidential seal. <\/p>\n<div class=\"Enhancement\">\n<div class=\"Enhancement-item\">\n<figure class=\"Figure mb-1 mb-sm-3 mb-md-1 article-lead-photo data_invisible\" data-align=\"center\" data-image-size=\"fixed\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\">\n<div class=\"Figure-container\"><source media=\"(max-width: 768px)\" type=\"image\/webp\" data-image-size=\"1060x600_md\" \/><source media=\"(max-width: 768px)\" data-image-size=\"1060x600_md\" \/><source media=\"(max-width: 1440px)\" type=\"image\/webp\" data-image-size=\"1060x600_xl\" \/><source media=\"(max-width: 1440px)\" data-image-size=\"1060x600_xl\" \/><source type=\"image\/webp\" data-image-size=\"1060x600\" \/><source data-image-size=\"1060x600\" \/><div class=\"Figure-credit\" itemprop=\"author\">\n                Justice Department court filings\n               <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In total, the filter team flagged 64 sets of material \u2014 520 pages \u2014 to review and possibly return to Trump. A prior court filing by Trump&#8217;s legal team <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/courts\/filing-reveals-almost-200-000-pages-documents-found\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a> that about 200,000 pages worth of documents had been seized during the Aug. 8 raid. <\/p>\n<p>The logs were accidentally included in a recently unsealed Aug. 30 report in which the DOJ explained to the court how its filter team combed through the Mar-a-Lago stash, per the report. The filter team identified and separated the potentially privileged documents from the government and classified material sought by the DOJ in the raid. <\/p>\n<p>However, a judge was seemingly unconvinced by the DOJ&#8217;s insistence that its &#8220;Privilege Review Team&#8221; was sufficient to siphon out privileged material and heeded requests from Trump&#8217;s legal team to appoint a special master \u2014 a third party to examine the documents. <\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who oversaw the legal proceedings, appointed U.S. District Senior Judge Raymond Dearie as special master. Dearie was one of the names put forward by Trump&#8217;s team, but he has <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/courts\/judge-rebuffs-special-master-trump-verify-documents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ironically butted heads<\/a> with the Trump team in the time since his appointment. <\/p>\n<p>About 100 documents snatched from Mar-a-Lago bore classified markings, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6215223\/special-master-mar-a-lago-documents-classified\/\">according<\/a> to court documents. The markings ranged from &#8220;CONFIDENTIAL to TOP SECRET information,&#8221; according to an affidavit for the raid. <\/p>\n<p>Federal authorities are investigating possible violations of the Espionage Act and obstruction of justice. Trump has vehemently denied wrongdoing, insisting that he declassified the documents holed up in Mar-a-Lago and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/trump-insists-a-president-can-declassify-documents-even-by-thinking-about-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theorizing<\/a> that a president can declassify material &#8220;even by thinking about it.&#8221; Notably, his legal team previously conceded in court that &#8220;it would be appropriate for a special master to possess a Top Secret\/SCI security clearance&#8221; to examine the documents. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>The DOJ is challenging the appointment of a special master, but Dearie&#8217;s work has continued as litigation pends.
