But Kirby did not mention the action Biden has taken to cut down on oil production and his rhetoric suggesting U.S. oil drilling should be phased out.<\/p>\n<p>In the first month of his administration, Biden issued an executive order <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/president-biden-takes-office\/2021\/01\/27\/960941799\/biden-to-pause-oil-and-gas-leasing-on-public-lands-and-waters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pausing<\/a> oil and gas leasing on federal lands, making good on his campaign commitment to reduce oil production. As a candidate in 2020, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/elections\/biden-promises-no-more-drilling-under-his-presidency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> there would be &#8220;no ability for the oil industry to continue to drill, period. Ends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Inflation Reduction Act, though, which passed in August,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hklaw.com\/en\/insights\/publications\/2022\/08\/inflation-reduction-act-advances-stalled-offshore-oil-and-gas#:~:text=Inflation%20Reduction%20Act%20Advances%20Stalled%20Offshore%20Oil%20and%20Gas%20Lease%20Sales,-Holland%20%26%20Knight%20Alert&amp;text=The%20Inflation%20Reduction%20Act%20(the,during%20the%20next%20two%20years.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mandated<\/a> the government lease oil sites in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of boosting domestic oil production to lower prices, the Biden administration has taken the strategy of pressuring foreign producers, particularly OPEC+, to increase their production.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration is <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/report-biden-admin-in-panic-mode-as-gas-prices-rebound\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> in panic mode as gas prices have surged in the past week and has threatened to take unprecedented executive action to limit oil exports unless oil executives bring prices down.
