{"id":1673928,"date":"2022-10-05T11:55:29","date_gmt":"2022-10-05T15:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/?p=1673928"},"modified":"2022-10-05T11:57:16","modified_gmt":"2022-10-05T15:57:16","slug":"oklahoma-governor-signs-bill-stopping-gender-transition-services-at-childrens-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oklahoma-governor-signs-bill-stopping-gender-transition-services-at-childrens-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Oklahoma Governor Signs Bill Stopping Gender Transition Services At Children\u2019s Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"><div class=\"mashsb-box\"><div class=\"mashsb-count mash-medium\" style=\"float:left\"><div class=\"counts mashsbcount\">22<\/div><span class=\"mashsb-sharetext\">SHARES<\/span><\/div><div class=\"mashsb-buttons\"><a class=\"mashicon-facebook mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.conservativenewsdaily.net%2Fbreaking-news%2Foklahoma-governor-signs-bill-stopping-gender-transition-services-at-childrens-hospital%2F\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Facebook<\/span><\/a><a class=\"mashicon-twitter mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?text=&amp;url=https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/?p=1673928&amp;via=ConservNewsDly\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Twitter<\/span><\/a><a class=\"mashicon-subscribe mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"#\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Subscribe<\/span><\/a><div class=\"onoffswitch2 mash-medium mashsb-noshadow\" style=\"display:none\"><\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n                <div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div><\/aside>\n            <!-- Share buttons by mashshare.net - Version: 4.0.47--><p>Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt (R) signed a bill on Tuesday that prohibits\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/gender\">gender<\/a> transition services for children at an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/oklahoma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oklahoma<\/a> pediatric hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us\/cf_pdf\/2021-22%20ENR\/SB\/SB3XX%20ENR.PDF\">bill<\/a> requires Oklahoma Children\u2019s Hospital to stop offering gender services to minors in order to keep millions of dollars in\u00a0federal COVID relief money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy signing this bill today we are taking the first step to protect children from permanent gender transition surgeries and therapies,\u201d the governor <a href=\"https:\/\/oklahoma.gov\/governor\/newsroom\/newsroom\/2022\/october2022\/governor-stitt-signs-bill-to-prevent-gender-transition-services-.html\">said<\/a> in a news release.\u00a0\u201cIt is wildly inappropriate for taxpayer dollars to be used for condoning, promoting, or performing these types of controversial procedures on healthy children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor also said the bill does not go far enough and called on the legislature to ban medical gender transition for children across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am calling for the Legislature to ban all irreversible gender transition surgeries and hormone therapies on minors when they convene next session in February 2023,\u201d Stitt said. \u201cWe cannot turn a blind eye to what\u2019s happening all across our nation, and as governor I will not allow life-altering transition surgeries on minor children in the state of Oklahoma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 3XX goes into effect immediately.<\/p>\n<p>According to the new law, the\u00a0money cannot go toward \u201cgender reassignment medical treatment\u201d for minors, including\u00a0interventions to suppress the development of secondary sex characteristics or to \u201calign the patient\u2019s appearance or physical body with the patient\u2019s gender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma Children\u2019s Hospital announced last week that it is planning to halt \u201ccertain gender medicine services\u201d\u00a0in order to keep funding for its new pediatric mental health facility.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital was poised to lose $39.4 million\u00a0in American Rescue Plan funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Legislature restricted the use of the funds from benefitting facilities performing certain gender medicine services. The new mental and behavioral health facility was never intended to provide such care. The OU Health Senior Leadership team is proactively planning the ceasing of certain gender medicine services across our facilities and that plan is already under development,\u201d OU Health <a href=\"https:\/\/www.koco.com\/article\/oklahoma-ou-health-gender-health-services\/41413025#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma Children\u2019s is part of OU Health, the University of Oklahoma\u2019s health\u00a0system.<\/p>\n<p>As recently as earlier this week, Oklahoma Children\u2019s offered a variety of different gender services, including \u201cpausing puberty,\u201d \u201cmanaging gender-affirming hormone therapy,\u201d and \u201chelping find surgeons who perform gender-affirming surgeries,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20221002220636\/https:\/\/www.ouhealth.com\/oklahoma-childrens-hospital\/childrens-services\/adolescent-medicine\/sexuality-gender-identity-issues\/\">according<\/a> to an archived version of its website.<\/p>\n<p>The website has now been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ouhealth.com\/oklahoma-childrens-hospital\/childrens-services\/adolescent-medicine\/sexuality-gender-identity-issues\/\">updated<\/a> to remove references to pausing puberty, hormone treatments, and surgery referrals, along with a statement from the health system about the new legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn light of the legislation signed by Governor Stitt, we have ceased hormone-related prescription therapies and surgical procedures for gender-affirming services on patients under the age of 18,\u201d reads the statement from OU Health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOU Health provides care in accordance with all state and federal laws and in compliance with regulatory governing bodies,\u201d OU Health added.<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/oklahoma-childrens-hospital-ends-gender-medicine-services-after-state-threatens-funding\">said<\/a> they wanted to give the money to OU Health for its new pediatric mental health hospital, and\u00a0behavioral health is the priority right now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thankful for language in this bill that protects children from the practice of mutilation through gender reassignment medical treatment,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-sentinel.com\/health\/state-representative-kevin-west-supports-special-session-bill-to-restrict-gender-reassignments-at-ou-childrens\/article_ef5100c4-3e95-11ed-8dfd-772290284730.html\">said<\/a> State Rep.
