The <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/liver-cancer-symptom-people-ignore-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">symptoms can be varied<\/a>, extremely subtle, and seemingly unrelated to your liver health. To make it even trickier, the American Cancer Society (ACS) reports that there aren&#8217;t any <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/liver-cancer\/detection-diagnosis-staging\/detection.html\" target=\"_blank\">widely recommended screening tests<\/a> for people who are at an average risk for liver cancer. In addition, &#8220;Small liver tumors are <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/liver-cancer\/detection-diagnosis-staging.html\" target=\"_blank\">hard to detect<\/a> on a physical exam because most of the liver is covered by the right rib cage,&#8221; warns the site. &#8220;By the time a tumor can be felt, it might already be quite large.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF) reports that liver cancer is the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wcrf.org\/cancer-trends\/liver-cancer-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\">6th most common cancer<\/a> across the globe. &#8220;There were 900,000 new cases of liver cancer in 2020,&#8221; says the WCRF. Read on to find out how you can slash your risk of liver cancer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ THIS NEXT: <\/strong><strong><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/news-liver-symptom\/\" target=\"_blank\">If You Feel This at Night, You Need to Get Your Liver Checked, Doctors Say<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"393438\" class=\"alignnone\"><noscript><\/noscript><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"credit\">PeopleImages\/iStock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Many people don&#8217;t realize that hepatitis B is the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hepb.org\/research-and-programs\/liver\/risk-factors-for-liver-cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\">most common risk factor<\/a> for liver cancer. &#8220;Being <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/liver-cancer-hepatitis-risk-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">vaccinated for hepatitis B<\/a> is very important,&#8221; explains <strong>Anthony Shields<\/strong>, MD, a <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.karmanos.org\/karmanos\/karmanos-physician-directory\/shields-anthony-7461\" target=\"_blank\">gastrointestinal oncologist<\/a> with Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit. &#8220;Many people are now vaccinated, and incidence of liver cancer due to hepatitis B has decreased markedly,&#8221; Shields he says, adding that &#8220;Hepatitis C is also a risk factor, but we have curative oral medication currently that will help cure this type of hepatitis and thus decrease the risk of liver cancer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How does hepatitis B lead to liver cancer? The journal <em>Nature<\/em> explains that the infection increasingly <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-022-00821-0\" target=\"_blank\">damages the liver<\/a> &#8220;as long as the virus is active.&#8221; says Shields. &#8220;Drinking in moderation or, even better, abstaining from alcohol consumption, will decrease the risk of liver cancer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Liver cancer is not the only potential consequence of indulging. &#8220;Alcohol use is one of the most important <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/healthy\/cancer-causes\/diet-physical-activity\/alcohol-use-and-cancer.html\" target=\"_blank\">preventable risk factors for cancer<\/a>, along with tobacco use and excess body weight,&#8221; Shields advises. Studies have shown that <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/coffee-liver-cancer-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">drinking two cups of coffee a day<\/a> can reduce your risk of liver cancer; components of coffee have been found to act as protection for your liver. According to Healthline, some other <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/nutrition\/11-foods-for-your-liver\" target=\"_blank\">liver-healthy foods<\/a> are the antioxidant-rich grapefruit; other fruits such as blueberries, cranberries, grapes, and prickly pear; and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and Brussel sprouts, which &#8220;may help increase the liver&#8217;s natural detoxification enzymes, protect it from damage, and improve blood levels of liver enzymes,&#8221; says the site.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Foods with fiber can help your liver work at its best,&#8221; explains WebMD, warning that fatty foods and snacks with sugar and salt are<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/hepatitis\/ss\/slideshow-best-and-worst-foods-for-your-liver\" target=\"_blank\"> foods to avoid<\/a>. &#8220;Next time you feel the call of the vending machine, reach for a healthy snack instead,&#8221; the site suggests. &#8220;Cutting back is a relatively easy diet tweak with a little planning.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Liver cancer can be hard to catch in its early stages.
