The rule, implemented in 2021 through\u00a0the Department of Defense (DOD), has allowed for few religious exemptions.<\/p>\n<p>Lee noted that he is vaccinated himself and isn\u2019t against COVID-19 vaccines, but argued that removing\u00a0every single service member who refuses the shot violates their constitutional rights and hinders military preparedness. It comes as U.S. Army officials confirmed on Sept. 30 that they\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-army-misses-recruiting-goal-secretary-confirms_4768306.html\">failed to meet<\/a>\u00a0recruiting goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReports of recruiting struggles across the services indicate that the vaccine mandates are an impediment to recruiting, exacerbating the current recruiting and retention problems that are already impacting force strength in some DOD components,\u201d the three-star vice admiral wrote in an open letter to members of the Coast Guard. \u201cEnforcement of the blanket mandate is also resulting in separations of thousands of personnel and therefore is exacerbating force strength issues, and thus readiness concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Across all military branches, hundreds of service members have been discharged for not receiving the vaccines under Pentagon chief\u00a0Lloyd Austin\u2019s directive. A number of them have applied for religious exemptions but were almost exclusively denied.<\/p>\n<p>Lee told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense-national-security\/retired-vice-admiral-vaccine-mandate\">Washington Examiner<\/a> in an interview that top officials in the armed service are \u201cpatting themselves on the back\u201d because they push \u201cdiversity, equity, and inclusion,\u201d or a left-wing training protocol that some say is based on Marxist critical race theory.<\/p>\n<p>However, the vaccine mandate, he said \u201cis neither diverse \u2026 neither equitable [nor] inclusive\u2014because up to seven people that they\u2019re discharging, five of them are members of minority status,\u201d he added. \u201cSo that\u2019s not inclusive.
